I can’t remember whether I did or just meant to post on this subject before and forgot.
anyway as I see the north has now been hit with a precept to find more police officers.
precepts get added to council tax but are a separate line item.
I have my normal council tax, then a Greater London charge and then a precept for elderly care provision. I think the other two are a couple of hundred quid each per year.
where does this stop ? Or who can choose to add a precept to the council tax, does anybody know? I looked inline and found the following:
The term “precept” is derived from the Latin præcipe which means command and when it is used in the context of local finance it represents a legally binding instruction to collect a stipulated sum of council tax. Precepting authorities are those entitled to instruct billing authorities to collect council taxfor them.
