Could the prem league use money to leverage a change to the promotion structure.

Prem clubs are said to offer a new financial package to the EFL clubs but could this be a Trojan horse to further changes to the structure.

They have been forced into it on the threat of an independent regulator making it happen.
There has been a stand off in negotiations between the Premier and the EFL - and within the Premier with clubs lower down the table wanting the wealthier to pay a bigger slice.

Something should be done to level the playing field.
Been pretty stagnant for a while.
Divide money equally and put in wage caps. Get the best players playing for 40 clubs as opposed to 6.

They would if the money was the same.
The top players wouldn't play in this country, they would go/stay abroad where they could earn more. Then all you are left with is journeymen from league 1/2 playing in the Championship but earning a lot more than they deserve.

I could go for that if it means a more balanced league. Football is full of journeymen with those not moving to win silver often ridiculed.

Team salary cap & transfer spending cap I could support but it should be assessed within that football season not over 3.
There's no point having a team benefit from financial doping and staying up or getting in the chumps league whatever, and then being punished by a points deduction a couple of seasons later.

I still think the wages would be competitive.
At the moment, some clubs are paying £250k+ per week. Others are paying £5k-£10k in the Championship. A more fairly divided resource structure and overall wage cap could bring the average to a rate to still compete with Europe but make it more balanced across more teams.

An independent regulator is not going to happen under this government. They haven’t got the time to pass it. I suggest it’s not top of the Labour government to do list either. So the Premier League clubs can prevaricate as long as they want.
