Danish state will pay 75% of the salaries of laid off workers (so long as they’re not fired)
ceiling is 23000 Danish Crowns per month (£2800)
government picks up bill from employers for sick pay.

Swedish govt announce 300 billion SEK (£25bn) package. Includes measures for those affected by #COVID19 too.

Laid off workers guaranteed 90% of their income.
Govt will pay 50% of that and the employer picks up the other half
govt will pay sick pay, rather than employer

After the Danes yday the Norwegian govt has set out what it will do for workers affected by #COVID19:

Full pay for those laid off for 20 days.
Self employed get 80% of their average income the last 3 years - ceiling 600k NOK (£48000).
money for carers of Covid patients.

You've picked the best bail out strategies, which would possibly show the UK behind the curve. What about other countries say Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Portugal? I suggest that the UK would be in front of the curve regarding those countries but it would be beneficial to see a true average of all the 27 remaining states bail out strategies. I don't think the UK would come out too badly referencing a "true" comparison, do you?

I think it is more pertinent to point out that this shows a great benefit to the Nordic model and the provision of a social safety net, in part due to higher taxation levels.

Tried to Google but most links are behind pay walls but summaries say we are in the bottom three.

Restaurant where my daughter works has had 3 customers all day. Head office will be making a decision soon as to keep the restaurant open or not.- it is not likely that she will be paid.

Alan, even if the other countries do not bail out their employers, the employees would be still far better off on their state benefits than the paltry sums our government pays.

Mental health problems are going to shoot through the roof. A lot of people need reassurance and support. I'm sure all of that austerity means we can spend a bit now. Scrap HS2 if we have to.

I'm still trying to digest Macron's long address to the nation tonight and have yet to find a written copy, but if I understood correctly the government will pay 90% of salary for those laid off and 100% for civil servants. All gas, electriclty bills to be suspended along with many other measures. Hard to get my head around but it almost sounded like his use of the phrase "we are at war" or similar at least six times implied that that the word WAR was not a metaphor. I hope I've had too much wine.

At the moment I'd rather be here than in any other country in Europe.
I feel safer here and I know we will cope and I cannot say the same for anywhere else.

Bit different to Boris' keep calm and don't go to the pub cos we need them to close voluntarily because we don't want to pay the insurance...but luckily the BBC is postponing the over 70s paying the license.

I wish I had your confidence. I feel that the UK is lagging behind. We will have to wait and see.

The population of the 3 countries you mention when added together make up less than one third of the population of the UK.

We are the 6th largest economy in the World though so we should do much better than that for our people.

The part of Macron's address that relates to business - sketchy but details to follow tomorrow. Apologies for Google translate errors, but you'll get the gist.

>> For the most precarious, for the most deprived, for the isolated people, we will make sure, with the big associations, with also the local communities and their services, that they can be nourished, protected, that the services that we owe them be insured. For economic life, as far as France is concerned, no business, whatever its size, will be exposed to the risk of bankruptcy. No Frenchwoman, no Frenchman will be left without resources.

In the case of companies, we are setting up an exceptional system for deferring tax and social charges, supporting the postponement of bank deadlines and State guarantees in the amount of 300 billion euros for all bank loans contracted with banks. For the smallest of them, and as long as the situation lasts, those who face difficulties will have nothing to pay either for taxes or social security contributions. Gas or electricity bills and rents will have to be suspended.

In addition, so that no one is left without resources, for workers the system of partial unemployment will be massively enlarged, as I announced to you last Thursday, and as the government has started to specify. For entrepreneurs, traders, artisans, a solidarity fund will be created, funded by the State, and to which the Prime Minister will also propose to the regions to contribute.

The government, as of tomorrow, will specify all these measures. They will be based on needs, economic realities, needs sector by sector, obviously adapted. We will be there so that our economy is preserved in this difficult period and so that all workers can have this security also in terms of purchasing power, continuity of their lives. <<
