Contacted by track and trace

That advice is terrible, if you've been exposed to someone you could test negative now but still go on to be contagious and then develop symptoms (or not) all while thinking you're safe.

Since explained the situation to my boss and they have agreed I stay at home, reluctantly I may add. Think I’m ok with it now but see how we go

Isn’t that nonsense? If you have it you have it?
You may not display symptoms but you’d still show as positive if you have it.

Ok are you going to supply any proof?
I had a Covid test, and it explicitly says you didn't have the virus on the day of the test:

Actual text:
Your coronavirus test result is negative. You did not have the virus when the test was done.
You only need to self-isolate if:
- you get symptoms of coronavirus (you'll need a new test)
- you're going into hospital (self-isolate until the date you go in)
- someone you live with tests positive
- you've been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive.

But that doesn't mean you won't go on to develop covid. That's why the bullet points below you've quoted say:
- someone you live with tests positive
- you've been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive

It totally means that you won't go on to develop Covid, because you didn't have it.

The first bullet point is just saying that you could get it if you have future exposure.

If you have a test after being contacted by track & trace and it's negative, you know you are in the clear.

You don't develop covid immediately upon exposure.

You are misunderstanding. You don't develop symptoms immediately. You DO have the virus in your system. That is why the text can be so explicit.

"Your coronavirus test result is negative. You did not have the virus when the test was done."

No I'm not misunderstanding. Exposure will not lead to an immediate positive test for covid.
