There are 4-5 giant trees at the edge of the farmer's fields in Upleatham. Home to the best conkers in the paradise that is Teesside. Legend has it that this is in fact the infamous Conker Wood. However tread carefully. I remember immediately stepping in a cow pat the second I got there as a kid.

On the other side of the A174 opposite Lazenby.

Coming from Middlesbrough, go past Lazenby to the slip road at ICI. Take this and turn right and go back on yourself down the other side of the A174 staying in the left hand lane. There is a lay bye that leads to Conker Wood. The conker trees are next to Wilton Golf Course.

Yup Norman, between Lazenby and Wilton, if you walked from lazenby towards Wilton through the fields by the golfcourse

We have a beauty of a tree in our garden here in France and the conkers are all down now, but every year for some reason I can’t help collecting a stash, especially searching out big “cheesies“.

Conkers are supposed to be an alternative moth repellent.

Personally I think repelling is letting them off lightly.
