For their fantastic, innovative programme to work with dementia in our community.
This includes Dementia dances and events at the Riverside, Alan Peacock's Memory boxes going out on visits around care homes and also dementia friendly training at the Riverside for all staff for Boro games.
Having witnessed this project myself it is really making a difference. Just like music, sporting memories can spark and unlock distant memories in those sadly afflicted with dementia. This might be only a fleeting flicker but the difference to the quality of life can be significant. Middlesbrough is the only football club doing this presently and great that it has been recognised nationally because it is truly a nationally significant project.

That is wonderful recognition for the club and those at the club delivering and making it happen.

i'm sure they wont rest on their laurels and continue to progress a diversity culture throughout the football club, its suppliers, sponsors and supporters.

i noticed that last weekend during the Eid and closure of Ramadan, that Blackburn Rovers opened their ground to the Mosques in the area and they all came together to pray on the pitch - few locations could offer such a safe environment for that to happen - but it was also a wonderful message of unity between the football club and its Muslim community - its not a one off, its an ongoing inclusive programme of access and support at EID. - it would be amazing should Middlesbrough FC prepare to put in place such an event yearly for the Muslim community and embrace their Mosques to unite together on the pitch at the Riverside - our football club is also their football club..

Rovers; EID Prayers.

A good initiative in Blackburn, but I don't think there is the same requirement for this in Middlesbrough.
There are about 50 mosques in Blackburn and 3 or 4 in Middlesbrough I think.

This is a charity group we worked with when my step-Dad was suffering dementia. I think they have links with MFC and many other sporting clubs. I’d heartily recommend contacting them if you have loved ones under the spell of this vicious disease, especially if sport has been an important part of their life.

a big “well done” to the Boro, by the way
