C'Mon you Tories!

Yep, and I say this as a Labour member. I want them to do just a little bit better than expected today. Not on Teesside, natch, as would be great to see this Houchen character iced, but I dearly want Sunak to fight the GE as there is no way the UK public will vote for him. So I'd be happy with a little mini-bounce for the enemy, just enough to give them hope, to stay the assassin's knife.

I fear, however, he will be replaced this summer.

Actually Wiffwaff de Pfiffel is probably their least worst shout for an election shot. Would have between no hope and Bob Hope, but you look at the alternatives, and there's nothing - loads of it.

I just don't trust the British public, alas - so many decades of disappointment. There are too many quiet Tories out there just waiting for the right tweak to be made to the brand and I fear Labour's poll lead is much more vulnerable than everyone assumes.
I have wondered this myself. Until the GE comes round, I’m not sure I’ll fully believe the projected seat gains for Labour until I see it.

I think something happens by then to re-combine the split in Tory & Reform votes and turns this into much more of a live contest. They'd both be Turkeys voting for Christmas going into it as they are.

Absolutely agree - I still somehow expect the real GE poll to be much closer than the current theoretical ones
'Shy Tories' are still about in my opinion
I always look at Opinium and add a few to the Tory total, and take a few off the Labour one
That manages my expectations with a glass half full (in my case) feeling
I'd guess - with nothing other than gut feeling - that Labour will have a working majority that doesn't mean Starmer has to rely on Labour MPs not keen on him , but not a huge amount more

If the tories do very badly then Sunak will call a GE to avoid being ditched in a party leadership challenge, so it is better if they lose badly today as we get rid of them that much sooner.

In no way worth the risk.

It'd probably tempt a bunch of floaters back to the Tories as they'll think they're still "winners".

Exactly. It's a lingering death at the minute and it's doing no one any favours.

Not even sure it's doing the tories any good dragging it out either, but I get they're desperate and hoping for a miracle.

As we've seen in Middlesbrough in our time and more recently in Northamptonshire, Tory councillors are no better than their MP counterparts. I'm of the opinion that they need to be stamped out at every level of government, as there are so many closet UKIP councillors that continue to use their position for petty pursuits and widespread nimbyism.

There's an argument that Labour councillors are no better, in the long run. But that's not an argument for today.

Saw a poll today which was putting Labour on 500+ seats and the Tories on something like 20. Not happening.

Come election time, apathy will set in, large non turn outs......but people will still vote Tory out of blind loyalty or that Labour "can't be trusted with the economy" 🙄🙄

The Tories will get a spanking, but getting <100 seats and Reform pushing them close......can't see it.

We still have to see the RWM go full on with the dirty smear campaigns, downright lies (which aren't called out) and the gullible public will believe them. Expect this to be the dirtiest most divisive/ racist election in history.

Anything less than inhalation for the Tories will be bad for Labour. What can’t happen is Sunak becomes emboldened by better than expected results. Many disillusioned Tories are still Tory and a good set of results - seeing black people on planes to Rwanda and an attack on benefit scroungers will bring them scuttling back. Need to lose big tonight but sadly the headline is going to be Lord Bent’s re-election. Teessiders will have a lot to answer for if The Dark Lord’s win leads to a Tory revival

Apparently Piffle turned to vote today without photo I.D. Was refused entry. The irony is he introduced it.🤣
