Does anyone have any experience of cleaning up old fireplaces/brickwork. We recently uncovered a large and original fireplace behind a retrofitted Victorian fire (by accident). I’d like to restore it as best I can but it will involve cleaning up the soot stained brickwork inside the fireplace. I have read mixed reviews on certain products and it seems that some people pressure wash the bricks with good results. I had brick acid/cleaner in mind but I’m not sure it will be up to it. Any tips or advice is much welcomed.
