Clean sheets win tournaments

No it doesn't at all because it's misleading and disingenuous, especially regarding Croatia. Just how many more times are you going to refer to them as WC finalists and completely ignore their poor form in the three years since then, including the fact that they came into this competition having lost 7 of the 13 games they had played since September? And the Czechs are in the QF having beaten 10 men.

23 more times.
The Czechs were as good as the Netherlands before they had a man sent off. Croatia will provide a tough opponent to Spain tomorrow.
Why are some people so desperate to be critical and negative about England, and pick holes in any kind of praise of them? They aren't perfect, but I genuinely dont understand the point of all the tsunami of **** that's thrown them, even if it was completely justified surely at this point just get behind them whilst they are still in the tournament.

Were the Czechs beating the Dutch when it was 11v11? They weren't. They could only beat 10 men.
And the only desperation here is from you referencing a performance three years ago as some really tenuous reason to peddle the idea England had a tough group, but conveniently ignore how poor that team have been since.
England got out of the group, that's the only positive, but please don't pretend we've overcome some group of death scenario against seasoned international powerhouses.

It's not tenuous in the slightest, the same core of players who reached the World cup final make up that Croatia team. They didn't get to the final in a raffle, they got there because they were a bloody good team, with world class players like Modric and Perisic who are still playing. I'm not saying they are still as good as they were, I'm saying they are still a tough opponent with some excellent players as are the Czech republic as they very obviously proved yesterday.

b***ks. 6 champions league winners and 6 world cup winners in their starting 11 v Hungary? And most of the rest are Prem/Bundes winners like Sane, Gnabry and Gundogan.

Yeah, and their national team has been in bad form for years.
Hence having to come from behind twice to scrape a draw against Hungary.

Their trophies don't change the performances.

They clearly have quality in the side, Germany always will, but they're currently a shadow of what they were.

Germany have a good side, tomorrow is a real test.

Croatia are an ageing side a long way from the one torn apart by France three years ago. The French wouldn't have had the same easy final had we adopted the right attitude against Croatia. We threw it away.

If England win this tournament there are many who will claim that we had an easy route to the final and all the other teams in Europe are a shadow of their former selves and Southgate had so much talent at his disposal he should have won the tournament before we were out of the group, and it just demonstrates his tactical naivety that meant we had to actually play all our games.

I'm not criticising Southgate in any way with my comments.
I'm pointing out that Germany aren't that impressive right now and we shouldn't be going in to this match with any fear or feelings of inferiority.

If we beat them, it's still a big achievement as they're a historic powerhouse with some quality players.

If we get knocked out by them, it's not exactly an upset, we've both been in fairly indifferent form in the last few years.
I'm still fully behind Southgate whatever happens tomorrow.

Meaningless tomorrow. It'll be a very difficult match against a top team.

Obviously it's going to be a difficult game.
But you're the one who claimed it was b***ks that they're not that good right now.
They were knocked out of the World Cup by South Korea, relegated from the Nations League straight after that.
They were beaten 6-0 by Spain in November, and beaten 2-1 by North Macedonia a few months back, and they were minutes away from being knocked out by Hungary less than a week ago.

There's a reason Joachim Low is being moved on at the end of the tournament.

On their day, they can still play really well, but they're not the all conquering side that some are building them up to be.

I agree about germany, I haven't been that impressed so far.

I stand by it.

People are writing off a team full of champions league, world cup, prem and bundes winners.

And then in the next breath making us out to be world beaters because Aston Villas best midfielders in the squad.

If its anything other than a very tough, close game tomorrow then ill be surprised. I'm expecting Germany to be better than the teams we've played in the group games and I think we need to step up a level to win the game.

We definitely shouldn't be afraid of them either though, they are beatable.

Of course it's bloody tenuous because it was a match three years ago that you keep on referencing and completely fail to acknowledge how poor they've been since, including their atrocious recent form going into the Euros.
And the Czechs were the bottom ranked team in pot 3, 40th in the world and all they proven yesterday is that the can beat ten men.

They matched them for 60 mins 11vs 11, keeping a clean sheet in that time

They should have been 1-0 down literally moments before de Ligt was dismissed with Malen one-on-one and messed it up. The Czechs never had an opportunity like that. If you think beating the 10 men of the Netherlands is impressive, then fair enough, but please don't pretend they're a good side.

If I read the comments on here correctly there are only about 3 or 4 good teams in the euro's. Who knew!
