Great to see the attention to detail when In the address ( bottom left ) someone was putting an o after the b In Middlesbrough making it Middlesborough ( which we all hate ) which was attended to and corrected and wonder if it was the guile of Winston himself who picked it up .
See, I'd put commas there, where they are. But then again, I'm a somewhat obsessive grammar Nazi!Interesting use of commas, they’re in places we wouldn’t use them these days and missing from places we would.

As I imagine many on here like my family, were all steelworkers (only my Uncle Dîck joined.. And then it was the catering corps )... They were all Home Guard, ARP or firewatchers when off shift.
My dad was a Bevin boy straight after the war, did 2 years down the pit at Horden.I wonder what the ratio of lads that joined up was to those in reserved occupations on Teesside.

Just posted this in another thread, but this is the Tyne Bridge under construction. Who needs those yankee posters of guys on skyscrapers...If you visit the bunker under downing Street and look up, you'll see girders marked with dorman long across the ceiling.
You'll also find them in st James park tube and in the basement of Marylebone town hall.
I remember queuing to get in the cabinet war room on the stairs seeing aforementioned beam and proudly pointing and telling a Yank behind me " I'm from there me " ! ( I was still with beer from the night before ) .If you visit the bunker under downing Street and look up, you'll see girders marked with dorman long across the ceiling.
