Chuba

Why the fook didn't we offer him a bumper contract?!

The money we spent on Rogers and his wages, Sam Greenwood's wages, Jamie Jones', Alex Gilbert's fee and wages. Nothing players.

All of this money could have been saved and put towards Chuba's new contract.
Simply speaking...
Offer chuba double the ceiling for wages , everyone else find out , all want a payrise , ( including those that come in ) etc etc ..

End up a basketcase ffp wise at worst, or a very unhappy dressing room at best
( with some players on 10x what others are on )

I'm sure everyone's other half would be in their ear with someone else ' doing the same job ' but on 5 or 10 x the money

It's definitely not just about offering Chuba 5 years at whatever amount. That then becomes the negotiation point for contact renewals and new signings which we need to be doing in the other direction.

I think our squad will come good eventually but I think ideas about promotion etc are going on the back burner and we'll be having a season or two of gelling and gem discovery and sorting wheat from chaff out of the players that we buy, but we need to be more clever about it and rely more on the experience we have on the books where possible.

If we implode and go down (i hope not ) we will still be there next season with hopes and dreams of getting back to the championship.
Look how far luton fell,Leeds ,sunderland etc we are not immune.

Keep the faith 'don't worry be happy'

We're £140 million in debt i believe, hence why it's so important we invest wiser than we have. Go down (which I'm not necessarily saying will happen) and it'll be a monumental disaster for the club.

We have also given away players who could help us now

Two examples. Bola is a better player than Engel looked yesterday.

Watmore would have been a good option to come on and shake things up when things went flat.

I thought Chair was excellent for QPR and suspect we could have had him for a couple of million. A proven, quality player at this level.

We didn't sign too many of them, did we?

It doesn’t take two seasons to gel. If your somewhat of a good team you’ll see indications of it from the off maybe not results but you’ll see something. “ gelling” is an overrated term in football if your a good footballer surrounded by good footballers you’ll do well if not you won’t.

It doesn't, but if you don't buy the right players you have to buy new ones.

Agree there. The players we currently have will not have us challenging the aim should be to get out this league your only a couple of bad decisions away from slipping through the ladder completely mcgree forss obrien etc for silvera and rogers with hopefully jones being competive will keep us competive till January then we will have to get some big signings in

£10m in the bin plus a five year deal?

So £15m which we don’t have and fill the rest of the positions with academy players?

It's not really £10m in the bin though is it because we immediately have the player on our books for another period of seasons, we also save money not having to replace that position. It's this kind of insular thinking that has stopped us from moving forward so many times in the past. Failing to look at the bigger picture and what could be achieved by building on what we already have. We've waited decades to find a 20 goal a season forward and when we finally get him we sell him - bizarre and total madness to sell when we should have built our side around him. It's becoming very apparent how important he actually was to how well we did last season. If funds needed to be raised then sell McNair and Fry, players who can be much more easily replaced. Goalscorers are like hens teeth to find and they're usually very expensive, we should have gone all out to keep Akpom and I'm sure he would have stayed had the offer been right. You reap what you sow i guess and we have sown some very poor seeds by looks of it. We've sold Tav, Spence, and now Chuba for circa of £35m and look what's come in - out of all the signings over these past two seasons there's probably 2 of them who we'd make a profit on, i think that tells it's own story about how the club is being ran doesn't it.

We got a fee for Bola he was not given away. I thought he struggled in his last 18 months @ Boro hence Giles was brought in. Engel was left exposed in the first half with some 1 on 1s with Smith who looked a tidy player, that was poor covering from our midfield for me. I agree Engel needs to offer an attacking threat at certain times, and he didn't yesterday.

With Watmore I agree he was useful, but I feel Coburn will probably turn out to be more effective as he matures a bit more. Watmore did leave in January to release funds for Archer or Ramsey wages.

We would not get Chair for £2m, not this Summer anyway, I think Leicester bid £5m for him.
