Chuba Situation…

Surely leaving. Got all the cloak and dagger/injury hallmarks of a player about to leave. Without a recognised number 9, we look like we’re in deep bother up top currently and season just round the corner now. To be where we thought we would be, we need BOTH Chuba and a top quality number 9, from the off, not the end of August. Increasingly concerning on both of those.

I heard a rumour from the club that he had an injury.
Who's going to believe that though when there's people on here who know far better.

The likelihood of getting a “top” number 9 and 10 in before he leaves are slim, from a financial perspective.

The likelihood of selling him for the best possible price before the end of August is also slim.

We’re just gonna have to be patient I think. Of course, this time last year everyone was sure Chuba himself wasn’t good enough and that we needed a new striker.

Who knows what the new season might bring.

I predict the season will bring a false dawn 😉

His injury doesn't worry me but the fact he hasn't signed a new contract does. If he isn't going to sign a new contract I'd rather we sell him asap. Last thing we want is to rely so heavily on a player that's got his eye on the exit all season before we lose him for free. Ask Blackburn fans whether keeping Brereton-Diaz was worth it.

Even if he's injured he could sign a contract and put all the uncertainty to bed. Keeping him for the season without a new contract or selling him at the deadline would both be bad options for us.

This. If someone comes in north of 12 million with our current model we will have to sell, tavenier and spence prime examples.

It seems very few of our fans can count, as it's always seems to be that they think 1+1 = 5, or 6 or even that it's the end of the world!!!!

Runs to the West stand at the end of the Auxerre friendly , points to himself and mouths I'm staying .

I have no doubt that the only way we can fund a "top" number 9 is by selling Akpom. Without that it will only be a loan, and it won't be Archer. I think the club and Carrick will be relaxed about the situation. Obviously Akpom was our best player by a country mile last season but his influence fell off a cliff at the end of last season I thought. We can only play one way with him in the team too, and that system got found out a bit at the end of last season. With Akpom in the 10 role we have to play a proper number 9 in front of him, and the only ones we have are Forss, Hoppe and Coburn, none of which I imagine will start the season either in the starting 11 or playing through the middle.

I would never claim to be ITK but someone I trust told me a couple of weeks ago that Chuba is definitely still recovering from injury and is also very settled and happy on Teesside and keen to stay after a few years of constantly moving. The elephant in the room is his contract situation. Chuba only has a year left and after finishing top scorer last season his star has never been higher. At his age this is a really important contract for him and his future. With a strong hand his agent is doing his best for Chuba and Boro are doing their best for the club. It takes time. The longer it goes on though then obviously Boro strategically might choose to walk away and try and move him on but that is not what either party wants at the moment as far as I was led to believe. Time will tell.

if Forss isn't in the starting 11 I'll eat my ugly new shirt
the lad scored 10 goals from 38 appearances (24 starts) on the right wing.. he's been completely undervalued

He won't be leaving unless someone makes an offer which, as of yet, does not seem to have been mentioned.

We certainly won't be letting him go on a free this Summer just because he can walk away at the end of the season for nothing.

The club will make an offer that will almost certainly be lucrative, but less than he can earn elsewhere.

It would normally be a forgone conclusion, the player moving on to a higher level of football, increasing his earnings as he does so.

But with Akpom his success here last season was an outlier, verses the rest of his career playing for an array of different clubs and I think the situation is a little different to normal.

I still think there's an odds on chance he'll move, but it's not the forgone conclusion that it would normally be.

Personally I think one of the newly monied relegated clubs will offer Boro an amount too good for us to turn down towards the end of august, something around the 8-10 mil mark, and will offer chuba a contract that is too good for him to turn down given his age and circumstances.

Will probably suit all parties. We get a decent fee for a player who would leave for nowt, he gets a great contract after getting POTY and the buying team gets a quality player (albeit one shown it for 1 season) for a relatively bargain price.
