Yes. I reckon that if you choose your 'travel corridor' country correctly, then you'll be able to get away somewhere (y)(y) Enjoy.

Got a feeling it will be extortionate for Canaries this Christmas. Even more than it normally is.
I’m in the Canaries, there is virtually no infection, no one hospitalised with the virus and life is fairly normal, if a bit quiet. The weather is about 26 degrees and sunny virtually every day and will be at Christmas. Local businesses and bars are desperate for you to come, it feels very safe.

you can’t get medical insurance to cover the virus, but what they’re not telling you in theUK is that the Cañarían government is insuring everyone that comes against the virus, they also claim they will cover costs if you have to isolate when you get home because you caught it here - how the hell you would claim is another matter - but that’s what they say.

Get booked up and come and chill out before Boris locks everyone down again at the end of the Christmas hols.

Which island are you on?

Wife and I would love to visit Playa Blanca again soon and we were meant to come at New Year but was offered the money back on the flights and took it (they were extortionate to be fair).

My fear is Lanzarote being taken off the safe list while we're there. What I don't quite get is that if Lanzarote has virtually no infections, why are they letting in folk from the UK? Is it simply the dependency on tourism?

Yes it is to be honest. From tomorrow you need a negative test certificate with you to present to your accommodation, or you’ll be directed to a test facility, so they’re hoping this will cover some of the risk.

The few live cases there are on this island, about 30, are in a couple of Barrios in Arrecife and they seem to have a good grip on that. You need to wear a mask while walking around and in bars etc until you drink is served, there is 100% observation of this, it is policed. I can’t see the travel corridor being closed any time soon. We came out before lockdown was announced and while the air bridge was closed so flights were 18 quid! obviously they‘re a lot more now. I’d say 70% bars and restaurants are open and 50% hotels, but more will open over Christmas.

Tempted, if I can, to just rebook some much cheaper flights in January and take the risk. Would be good to know that I don't have to sit around for ages waiting for a test though.

I have just returned from Lanzarote and as above things are fine.
I did a walk in test before I went just in case they managed to get the rule through.
Result messaged to me 36 hrs after test.

Cheers for the replies , will we all need Testing? We're a family of 5 2adults 3 kids . can we get tested before we travel or does have to be when we get there ?what are these costing ?

You can test 72 hours before travel, probably recommended. Not sure what the facilities are here, they reckon a couple of hours, but I don’t know. I’ll update when I hear more.

Book with BA out of LHR and I’ll try and get you an upgrade on the day 😉

Assuming I still have a job 😞

Yep, ditto, my wife and I would also love to get back to Playa Blanca. We'll see what happens between now and Xmas, hopefully circumstances will allow. My key worker needs a break having worked every single say apart from 3 last week, but obviously that's not real holiday, especially as she was still working, just on her side hustle rather than main profession. I could really do with a break away for different reasons, but we both need one regardless

A friend from the Canaries has just made me aware of the immigration problems. The BBC site is reporting that 1600 people landed mainly on Tenerife and Gran Canaria yesterday.

we were hoping for a christmas away this year but we have decided it just isn't worth it. Too many things you cannot predict right now.
