Cant stand Xmas cake. Too heavy by far.

Cheese with a mince pie. That is more palatable. Good mature cheddar. Montgomery cheddar in particular.

In principal - yes
but
Wensleydale - no. It’s bland and needs a chutney
Xmas cake needs to be without marzipan and icing
I agree also good with mince pies.

And finally
it will be my first xmas without cheese.
Cut dairy out of my diet early this year so will just have the memory.

They sell little boxes of raisins and sultanas for kids. Eat them on Christmas tea time instead of wasting all that time on getting the ingredients and baking a Christmas cake. They taste the same, you can add a little tot of rum if you want.
Saves time and is much cheaper

Think I'll send that off to Viz top tips

Cheese please (y) with a bit of cake with the minimum of icing/marzipan.

Not since my Mam died but we always used to have Yorkshire puddings as a starter for Sunday lunch, normally 3 or 4 each o_O then more with the roast beef, the afternoon was a right off after that :)

Xmas cakes are always ruined when folk put marzipan on them.
Xmas cake (no marzipan) with a wedge of cranberry Wensleydale though and we have a winning combination.

I don't think I've ever seen my Dad have a slice of Christmas cake without a decent nub of cheese with it
