The trouble is Wilder has ruined our defence & doesnt know how to fix it after warnock making us solid at the back how many more games do you want to give wilder & steffan defeats before you think its time for change we are nearly at the point of no return in this season.

Were we that more solid under Warnock? At the end of the 20-21 season we kept just 1 clean sheet in the last 8 and then last season before he was let go we shipped in 6 in his final 3 matches. That said you are right the defence has not settled.

We weren't solid at the back last year, before Wilder took over and that was despite playing fairly mixed/ negatively, we still conceded 50 and were 14th when Wilder took over, and finished 7th, with a goal difference of 8.
5/6 teams above us conceded less, playing more attacking football, our goal difference was at least 25 short of all the promoted teams, that's never going to be enough to get promoted, and the problem was largely scoring goals. We weren't all that attacking, as we didn't have the strikers, or all that much creativity once Jones was shut down.
We had to go more attacking, as changing to a more defensive side would have been a larger overhaul.
Not many teams have got promoted scoring around 60 goals, only us and Watford in the last 7 years or so. Ours was with Karanka, when we only conceded 31. That was a very solid defence, but also very largely to do with a very defensive setup. We ain't recreating that, with this side/ squad, so we have to go the other way which is outscoring teams. This opens the door to a better goal difference and the free-scoring teams often end up near the top. It's easier to try and fix conceding goals, than scoring more I suppose.
It's a lot of the same players we had last year, making individual errors, which are costing goals. Wilders not making them do that, but the players are doing that, for one reason or another. He's also not at fault for us missing loads of chances (which the team/ setup is creating), we should be well up there with the top scorers in the league, if Watmore and the Midfield had chipped in with the goals they would be expected to.

We've had to make a few changes due to injuries and knocks in games to be fair, or we've made silly individual errors which have meant tactical/ player switches, we've not been constant or able to be constant.
Defence starts with attack though, and then midfield, and there have been many changes there also, through injuries and new arrivals meaning player changes. The only constant has been Howson who isn't in the best form (or a spring chicken), and the wing-backs who have largely done well, albeit better at attacking than defending, but we knew that, and knew teams would try and exploit that.
We could do with a 4/5 games with a settled side, with no injuries so we can get some familiarity, then if we can get some wins we would start to turn a corner I think.

I don't think anybody coming in would look to transform our attacking options, it's our defending that needs sorting out.

He`s cleared out the football pensioners, old engines and bit-part players.
He has said many times "this is a big rebuild job" and he means it.
We`ve bumped along for 12 years in the last 13 in the Championship.
We have been the "nearly" team, whilst team,s like Sheffield United(!), Watford, Fulham and Norwich have uped and down at least once.
Its not just about parachute payments.
We`ve had a collection of dinosaurs, rookies and wannabees; including one who kept throwing his toys out the pram and managed by the skin of his teeth to get us up at the second attempt.
We cant keep sacking Managers - unless you want to become a Leeds or Forest - 20 years in the wilderness.
Somewhere in the core of our club - we have a "problem" - which includes buying players over the Managers head - making ill-considered decisions, then finding someone [anyone] to bail out the sinking ship.
We only have rumours and supposition what is going on behind the scenes. Certainly Wilder wasnt happy at how the summer "recruitment" had been handled. So who was making the wrong decisions and holding up the process?
Maybe thats at the core of the "problem"?
Unless that is resolved [quickly] we face a future of a new Manager every 18 months - another clear-out - contracts for the next Manager to carry - and the bobbling along of the club - being the "nearly" man.
Perhaps a number of people in the core are unwilling to change?
Its a long time since the Carling Cup and Europe.
Dont just blame the Manager.
This ship hasnt sailed in one direction long enough to know where its heading.
The club hasnt yet identified where and how it is going to achieve its objective.
Wilder is being held back by people who have become stubborn and out of touch.

I don’t mean to be rude, but you do know they play completely different positions, don’t you?
I said that because i just want clarke out of the team i am now happy to leave clarke in because it will mean the end of wilder & clarke. There is not too many people putting money on boro to win games at the bookies so that says it all thank god we have this break its just putting more pressure on wilder.
