Chris Kamara - Lost for Words

I’ll only watch if if he doesn’t profess to be a Boro fan.
It doesn't matter if he professes to be a Boro fan or not, he is raising awareness of ailment that impacts the lives of the young and old. Give it a watch and tell me afterwards that you aren't touched by the programme.

To see young kids not being able to speak and little known about why would move anyone. Chris is doing a good job at making others aware of it.

I have no idea of the subject matter, other than it being about Chris Kamara. I assumed it was just a documentary about his life tbh. I might watch it. So what is he raising awareness of?

I’ve come across Kammy a handful of times in my personal life and always been a bit cynical of him, he’s likeable on the surface of course. I’ll watch the programme though purely to gain some insight into the condition.

Half way through. I didn’t even know he’d left Soccer Saturday as I never watch it (I knew they’d had a big shake up though). Yes it’s a tough watch seeing him sound so different to how he sounds normally with almost no explanation. No wonder he’s lost confidence.

Yes an interesting watch. This had all passed me by, wasn’t at the match he came out at half time during. Sad for him, it’s a very peculiar illness.

Ok I’ve read up on it now. I’m sure it’s not a nice condition.
Having spoken to Chris Karama before and after his aphasia giving him the same tour of Ayresome Park the difference was so marked. But his recent appearance at Riverside shows how through his own hard work and following expert advice he is battling back against his condition. His half time speech on the Riverside pitch would have simply been beyond him the day I met him a year ago at Ayresome Park. That will make him an inspiration for the many people battling to communicate with aphasia.

For those that haven't watched it and don't plan to.

Kammy's conditions means he struggles to get his words out and when he does the are are slightly slurd.

Also his balance is not how it should be so overall he appears to be tipsy when he is not or have suffered a stroke and he has not.

Part of his brain is not functioning correctly and can be seen in the programme in a scan. Some sufferers are children so its not directly linked to age or environment. Sufferers appeared to be mainly male. There is no known cure but Kammy condition has been lessened by exercises and some medication. Kammy's confidence has been affected to some extent. because he can't do what he was doing. The condition was only recognised 10 years ago and its very rare.

He said his lowest point was the time of the Rotherham home game and the RF banner at that game made a big impact and he has improved since. I am starting to feel a bit emotional.

Well done RF for helping to change someone's life for the better and good luck to Kammy for future improvements.

That half time appearance and reception was really heart warming I thought.

Just finished...found it quite difficult to watch as you could blatantly see how much its affected Chris in terms of his self confidence and losing the person he once was. Glad he's trying to take the positive and use his experience to help others like him and raise awareness of a very little known about illness.
