Preview:

Watford played party-poopers on Valentine's Day when their 1-1 draw at Turf Moor stopped Championship leaders Burnley from winning a record-breaking 11th straight Championship game. But more importantly for them, it kept them inside the division’s top six, which has been a growing concern in recent weeks due to the Hornets’ winless streak, which has now been extended to five league matches (D4, L1).

Manager Slaven Bilić described the draw as feeling “like a defeat” due to conceding a goal inside second-half stoppage time. That’s a problem that has plagued Watford this season as they’ve now conceded ten league goals after the 75th minute, a total only three teams have exceeded ahead of this gameweek. Likely to be out of the top-six come kickoff time on Monday, Watford really need to start converting some of their recent draws into wins, especially at home where they’ve won only once in their last five games (W1, D3, L1).

West Brom are one of those sides trying to profit from Watford’s dip in form, as they come into the round in tenth and just two points behind their hosts, despite having played one game less. They were also forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after conceding in the dying moments during mid-week action when they welcomed Blackburn, meaning it’s just one win in four league matches (D1, L2) for the Baggies.

Both teams are obviously in desperate need of a win to revitalise their campaigns, yet recent H2H form leans more towards the home side than the visitors. West Brom are winless in four league visits to Vicarage Road (D2, L2) while failing to score in each of their last three encounters there. And while Carlos Corberán’s men might boast one of the Championship’s better attacks on paper (G40), it’s worth noting that they found the back of the net only once during their last three competitive away games (L3).

Players to watch: Ismaïla Sarr opened the scoring in the last H2H (1-1), and Watford are unbeaten in the last four matches in which he netted (W3, D1). While Jed Wallace has registered more league goal contributions than any other West Brom player (G4, A6), his disciplinary record has come into question recently with two yellow cards across his last four competitive matches.

Would not be against a Watford win here.

If they do and then can beat Sheff Utd they would only be 8 points behind them (obviously a draw would be better for us in that game)

Draw here would be a cracking result by our perspective. Hopefully a Watford dominant performance though get them that belief going into their game at the weekend.
If West Brom can play poorly to heading into the weekend giving them an awful feeling going into their game against us that'd be great!

Ben Brereton Diaz smashed in a late free-kick to end his personal goal drought and rescue a point for Blackburn Rovers against West Bromwich Albion.

Albion substitute Jayson Molumby's 73rd-minute header looked to have earned the Baggies all three points.

It was the first home goal Albion had conceded in more than 13 hours of football since Carlos Corberan's first game in charge at The Hawthorns in October.

Albion boss Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio WM:

"We lost two points. A mistake cost us.

"Jayson Molumby twice lost the ball in midfield but I was happy with the rest of his actions.

"We have to analyse what we did well and what we did not do well.

Watford FC is pleased to confirm the signing of striker Britt Assombalonga on an initial six-month contract, with the Hornets holding an option to extend for a further year.

Returning to his first club after 10 prolific years in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and Turkish Super League, Assombalonga, 30, has made over 300 appearances in the English game, turning out for Peterborough United, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough since leaving the Golden Boys in 2013.

The DR Congo international ascended the youth ranks at Vicarage Road and signed as a scholar having impressed Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust coaches at Hertswood School, becoming a professional in 2010 after a fruitful spell in the Under-18s and reserves.

Assombalonga thrived on loan at non-league sides Wealdstone and Braintree Town and earned a recall to the first-team, making his debut against Coventry City in March 2012.

A loan to Southend United saw Assombalonga prosper further and move permanently to Peterborough, where he finished as the second-highest goalscorer in League One in 2013/14, with 23 goals.

Enjoying three successful seasons at Championship level with Forest, Assombalonga scored 30 in 69 games and became top goalscorer in his final campaign at the City Ground, helping the Reds to secure survival on the final day of 2016/17.

He joined Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017, spending four years at the Riverside Stadium and netting double figures in three of his four campaigns on Teesside, amassing 47 goals for Boro before leaving for newly-promoted Adana Demirspor in 2021, netting 18 goals in 54 games for the Turkish outfit.

Making nine international appearances for DR Congo since his 2018 debut, Assombalonga joins up with compatriot Edo Kayembe in Hertfordshire, and he will wear the number 34 shirt - the first number he was assigned as a Hornet back at the start of his professional career.

West Brom we’re woeful first half at the sol, brought on Dike and Diagana at half time and looked like a premier league team 🤷
