Carrick out

Genuine question, how much of an impact do you think a manger / coaching set-up has on a team catching a wave?
Not a huge amount. Hence why you get managers like Aitor Karanka achieving great things at a club and achieving literally nothing in any other job. Quite often it all just fits together at a club between staff and players, it works, but it’s not necessarily repeatable.

I’ve always said, for years, that I don’t think we should look to change managers unless we’re in serious danger of relegation. In that scenario, you can look to a new manager bounce as a temporary measure to preserve your Championship status, there are huge financial implications. If there’s no threat of relegation, you are better off persevering in this division until it works. Just my opinion of course. These perpetual “squad rebuilds” haven’t worked for us.

I do understand where you’re coming from in terms of changing managers and as a rule I would be reluctant to change as easy as some teams make a habit of it. I just fear we may have missed our wave with Carrick in charge, it’s all about timing and momentum and we are really struggling with the latter. If hats the case, surely it becomes a pointless exercise from all sides to just continue, it’s starting to get that feel. He looks a little bit devoid of knowing how to change things. I don’t know how much Danks was a factor but as the season goes on he’s looking like a big loss.

It feels like our ‘wave’ with Carrick was the end of his first season. We picked up some injuries before the playoffs, he tried to rest and rotate, we lost momentum going into the playoffs with Coventry. We haven’t really recovered. If Akpom’s header had hit the target at the Ricoh straight after half time of the playoff first leg this thread wouldn’t even exist. We’d probably be in the second division still but we’d be drowning in parachute payments, with more genuine quality in a squad more tailored to what this manager wants because we’d have gone up and then come down. We’d be in that Sheffield United, Burnley, Bournemouth situation.

I think those are the margins.

If we had been promoted.. we’d have been relegated. lol

I’m a big fan of yours on here.

We’re alright. Things aren’t as bad as folks are making out. Steady away until January and then what we do in the window will dictate our fate.

That is where we are.

So basically you are agreeing recruitment hasn't really set us up for success.
No, success isn’t measured only by results this season. It’s measured longer term than that and in the security of the club. Both of them I think are in a far far healthier position than when Scott arrived where we over payed for players that were worse than we have today in ability. We’ve got some young players who are hot and cold but can develop into very very good players beyond the players we had 4 years ago at a fraction of the cost.

I always expected that this journey would be twists and turns and some people would panic at the first serious blip. I’m staying on course for long term success

We’re way better than 2 years ago in terms of having a squad of players that we own. We previously relied on too many loan players and couldn’t build properly season after season.

People comparing us now to the season we finished 4th need to remember why we finished 4th. Chuba hit a purple patch which nobody saw coming (most wanted rid before the season started). The rest of our goals were scored by a striker on loan who then left. We were also lucky with injuries, until the back end of the season. As soon as they happened, we were a completely different team and looked pretty average.

Yes, results this season have been disappointing and players are underperforming. Carrick isn’t immune to criticism. But it’s fine margins between success and otherwise, and luck is a big factor.

We own 4 centre backs. 2 have been out all season and chunks of last season. Both the others have missed games already. 1st choice left back? Long term injury. Same at right back. Pretty much every attacking position has also had injuries. Other teams aren’t getting this.

No way should Carrick be sacked. Luck will change. Results will (hopefully) improve. We will (hopefully) stop making stupid mistakes.

Will it be enough for the playoffs? Possibly. If not, we’ll have most of the current players here next season so we should be stronger.

Well he might be out tonight and to be fair I think I’d be out if I were in his shoes, in fact I think I’d be ‘out out’ , me Lager , Woody lager, Graham, Lager sometimes Cider so different drinks for different .. needs

We more than likely won't have Ben Doak though, who was a massive miss for us yesterday. We've also got the potential scenario of losing Hackney and VDB (assuming they eventually hit form) and I wouldn't be surprised if PL clubs take an interest in Morris if he continues to improve as the season progresses.

I like the idea of building a young team who will continue to develop and treating it as a long-term plan but when you're a Championship club it's not always easy to achieve success doing it this way.

I think he might need an assistant..

How about TrumpetBum fcuks off with him! Lolol
Well that got a lorra laughs.

Stick to your day job; bullying people on here who are not in a fragile state of mind; also showing your @rse when someone doesn’t agree with you, then chucking a tantrum and leaving the board.

Stay with him it will eventually come right in league 1 you know its the right thing to do we cant keep changing managers we know that Gibson will keep funding it throwing money down a black hole.CARRICK NEEDS MORE TIME TO GET IT RIGHT Ipswich got promoted in 2 years so it takes time.

carrick is making the same tactical failings season after season against the same teams its groundhog day. We havent scored against Coventry nevermind beat them in numerous attempts robbins has carricks number so bad he must be embarrassed. Bristol city was another home game where it was an almost identical defeat as the previous season carrick hadnt learned anything. The slow buildup play from the back and inability to counter a low blow is carricks achillies. I dont want him to leave what a want is for him to come up with an answer and a tactical variation from time to time. To me he hasnt progressed as a manager tactically. in fact since danks has left the ingame management and substitutions have become worse. Do i think we will turn it round, no, do we give him the opportunity to see the season out maybe. Do i think he would ever become a successful premier league manager absolutlely never hes too rigid and inflexible in his tatical approach.

Does everyone thing a new manager will persist with hackney & morris partnership when its not working.
Morris plays far too deep for me even before the sending off yesterday i said we were sat far too deep as a team. Once Hackneys back from suspension i would restore the Hackney howson partnership in midfield.

So we rinsse repeat a new managerial change. He would come in whoever that may be and will work with the same squad who are clearly giving their all for the current manager. He may tighten us up and we play dour football a la Parker at Burnley - where by the way the fan moaning is incredible. They are 2nd!!! But playing dreadful boring football.

No I don't want another change of manager despite the disappointing results. I am all for giving Carrick time and patience - actually I enjoy watching us play despite the results especially away from home. I dont particularly enjoy the atmosphere at home and thats not a criticism of the fans ar all. Its just the place when its 3/4 full.

So for me happy to see us play decent football in the championship and not dour defensive stuff pushing for promotion to a league where we will spend 30% of time with the actual ball. Unambitious yes but thats how I want to enjoy my team playing.

The season isn't over so saying so and so is above us means little at the moment.
This is largely our squad, with only Doak being what you'd call a quality loan addition. In the past we've relied heavily on loanees so even if we don't make it this year, you'd expect us to try and improve things next season.
I'll be as disappointed as anyone if we fail to even make the playoffs. I still think you can see an evolution at the club and it may or may not ultimately pay off, but we've got to stop ripping it up and starting again and I honestly think that persistence will pay off.
Trouble is if we don't go up this year the vultures will be circling for our crown jewels this time.

Ive never seen a championship team play out from the back so often and as ponderously as we do. Teams are targeting our overplay. Unless carrick changes this and gets us to move the ball quicker from the back we wont ever be successful. If hes not prepared to vary his tatics then he needs to go.
This.

The team is, I assume, instructed to play in a manner beyond their skill set game after game. 2 years in, why do people think we will suddenly cut out the absolute horror show errors we commit on a weekly basis?

The red yesterday was as a result messing up playing from the back. Bristol City goals the same . The list is endless though.
