Publicly MC will tell you he respects Sunderland and that they are a good side.

Privately MC doesn’t like Sunderland and it’s not because of his Geordie heritage.

The time Manchester United narrowly lost the title on the last day to Manchester City the Sunderland fans stayed back to goad the Manchester United team and the players never forgot it. He even mentioned it in his book and that whenever they visited the Stadium of Light In future seasons they always used that behaviour as a motivator to try give them a good pasting.

That’s what I think it’s all about, he will have enjoyed that today.

Funnily enough I was speaking to a United fan yesterday and he was telling me about this, I hadn’t realised how much they disliked Sunderland because of it. It makes sense I suppose with Fergie being in charge, he could hold a grudge as well as anyone.

He said that they used to send loads of their players to Sunderland but that stopped that day. I remember they had O’Shea, Richardson, Wes Brown, Bardsley etc and then nothing after that until I think Diallo last season.

Wasn't aware of that at all, it was clear he was a bit more animated than normal. Big local game and them flying high probability made it even sweeter.
