Carpentry tool question

I need to saw exactly in half some 1200x800mm plastic pallets right down the middle so they're 1200x400mm (don't ask why;))

What is the best way to do this? From what I see most circular saws only cut 50mm deep but I need to cut 120mm

The first couple of questions I would ask are what tools do you have to do the job and do the cuts need to be exact, could you lose a few mm?

Do you have access to a table saw? Most table saws have a maximum cut of around 80mm, you cut one side at 80mm and then flip it over and run it through the saw again.

Use a circular saw for the 1st cut then a hand saw for the second using the 1st cut as a guide
If he was doing that he would be better flipping it over and making the second cut on his he reverse side This would then leave him with 20mm to hand saw and a cutting guide both sides.

I think this process could be very physical if having to cut more than one pallet.

I've got 40 pallets to do

Table saw - I'd have to hire it - sounds like a good option, cut one way then flip it over and do it again
Make sure you hire a table saw with a fence and the capacity to rip down at 400 mm, remember to take into consideration the blade thickness to make sure both sections are equal. On my table saw, I am able to move and set the fence at the distance required using the built-in tape measure but this is the distance between the fence and the blade. For example, if I set it at 400mm cutting an 800mm board, the offcut would be the blade thickness shorter. Most blades cut at 3mm. I would mark the centre of the board on your first cut, line this up with the centre of the blade and move your fence towards the workpiece and set the fence. Do not move the fence again and each piece should cut at 398.5 mm. If the saw has a built-in tape measure, set it at the desired distance minus half the blade thickness.

Be careful when using the table saw and watch out for kickback.

You've now got me intrigued and are wondering what you are using the pallets for.

I’m intrigued now too!

80 half pallets is a LOT. Maybe he’s building a large shed out of pallets, to store more pallets in

Something tells me it involves strong lights and tapping into next doors electricity supply.
They just bypass their own meter these days,

You will be able to identify him coming out of B&Q with 100 multi plug extension leads

We're nailing him down as the next pablo, and he's probably making a nativity scene for crimbo
