Carling Cup Celebration 29th Feb at Boro Town Hall

It will be a really memorable night Humpty.
This time there will be nail biting as we count down on the clock.

I thought the price was excessive but I was willing to pay it as it appeared to be a full buy in from the the club. To have only 7 players there and only 4 that actually played is really poor. I actually think it’s reflective of the way the club has treated its ex-players. I wasn’t shocked to understand that Schwarzer wasn’t going to be there. I’m sure it was still a nice night.

For a bit of balance I just wanted to say I thought it was a great night.

As you'd expect Southgate spoke well, he's a really humble guy and had a great sense of humour. Like a few of the players he looked quite emotional at the reception he got.

Actually you can tell most of the players had a good sense of humour as they were taking the micky out of each other, even Maccarone in his broken English.

Juninho was able to speak to the players and fans through the video link which worked pretty well.

I felt a bit sorry for Nemeth as I don't think he fully understood half of the questions and he was just left out of most of the evening.

It's hard to really disagree with some of the criticism as well, if the club have fallen out with some ex players then thats a real shame, Schwarzer should have been on there and would have been more of a contributor than some others. Also, the Malcolm Christie thing doesn't sound good either.

One thing I would say is that it's hard to conduct an evening like that and really hear from multiple players, Franck Quedrueue is obviously very funny and interesting but we didn't get much chance to hear from him. Boateng had some great stories but again he probably didn't get enough chance to speak. I thought the hosting of the event was pretty average but its probably not an easy job to be fair.

In hindsight I think maybe 4 players would have been the right number for last night but that in itself would have probably been criticised.

Really enjoyed the night and one thing it made me realise was how involved in everything Mendietta was, in that season. He was spoken of so highly by his fellow teammates.
He was on a different level and i think i may have brushed his role in that team under the carpet a little. More fool me. His passing was sublime.

Southgate calling Schwarzer a great keeper but also a little dull was very funny as was the video of Maccarone protecting his Dolce and Gabanna suit with a towel from the champagne in the changing room!

We should've built the team around Mendieta but in reality he produced moments of brilliance rather than having periods of prolonged influence. A big talent none the less.

I agree about Mendieta. I always thought he was a good player but maybe expected even more when he was here mainly due to the fact that at one point he was the most expensive midfielder in the world (I think). Watching some of those clips you realise he was at the heart of everything we achieved in that cup run. His passing ability was something else.

It was a good night, really enjoyed it. Juninho looked very emotional at the end when he said his goodbyes and could hear the audience singing his Ole Ole song. Hopefully he's back on Teesside at some point in the not too distant future.

After the meltdown before the event, everyone had It down as an epic fail.

What a surprise on the night as it was absolutely fantastic!
Easily the best night the club has done for ages.
All players happy to chat with the fans and get photos.

Some players missing, would have liked to have seen Christie there and schwarz. All in all a good night

It was Really interesting to hear the others players talk about mendi and how good he was you don’t see that too often a real honest view of other pros like that.

He was the puppet master wasn’t he and it’s amazing how many key balls in that cup win were from his boots.
