Carabao cup

All championship clubs crashing st the first hurdle. I'm not sure what the percentage of squad 'rotations' where in effect but I'm guessing large.

Probably says how must feel about the competition. Also with it staring so early and clubs squads no where near where they should be means players ain't risked (very much like Boro).

That said a decent chance of the league one and two sides playing a prem reserve side in the next round😉

A few ex-Boro players involved too. Chapman and Halliday got assists for Bradford who knocked Hull out.
Marcus Browne scored the first penalty for Oxford who knocked Swansea out.
And Connor Ripley in goal for Morecambe who beat Stoke on penalties.

I think we all enjoy a cup run but I don't really care what happens tonight given how thin our squad is. I will probably change my mind once we have a few new faces in.

There was a time when people used to say the top clubs weren’t interested in the League Cup. Now it seems it is becoming the sole preserve of the top clubs with their huge squads.

I fully expect it to be scrapped in the next decade.

UEFA are always pressuring us to do so, and I expect the Premier League will make scrapping it it a condition of a rearranged financial structure.

The Carling Cup will always be memorable from a Boro perspective, but I used to love it when it was on Sky as the Coca Cola Cup. The Fools Gold theme reminds me of some great games back in the day.

I'm surprised they didn't try and drop it for this year given the World Cup already causing issues.

I fully expect us to play a very weakened team tonight, and probably lose. Perhaps Finch to get a start.

Why don't we just call it the league cup like we do when we say fa cup , we don't add the sponsor

Funny because I can see him starting with a strong team, using the substitutions to try and keep a good momentum up leading to the next league game .
maybe not start with his preferred league starting 11, but strong enough then bring some on for the last 15 mins or so

I think we have players that need "game time" so I would expect to see Forss and Akpom start. Also Steffen. In midfield, rest Johnny perhaps and move Paddy up, keep Crooks on the bench to try to avoid his inevitable booking so one of the young's in (Hackney?). Is it five subs in three goes like the league? Expect four changes before the hour regardless of the score.

Watford and West Brom gone.

Only 6 championship teams lto R3 with 1 playing away tom at Wycombe.
