Car electrics question...

Weird thing going on with my car - has been since I got it to be honest, but is more of an irritation than a real problem, but curious as to whether it's common, easily solvable etc...

Anyway, so the car has a DAB radio (factory standard) which works fine, unless I've got something charging via the power outlet (standard 12v DC(?) connection I think), in which case it loses the signal.

Dodgy wiring or common? It's a 2016 Honda CR-V if that helps...

I’m sure I had this issue with a Citroen. Do you have another USB socket to try? If not, buy one of those 12v cigarette lighter/usb socket thingies with 2 usb sockets. You might find one socket will work and one will affect the DAB . If there is a secondary 12v socket in the centre console box or in the boot, try those also.

Yeah, it is one of those cig lighter/2 slot USB hubs. Hadn't particularly noticed if one slot causes it and the other doesn't - there's also a second outlet I can try, although I've a feeling I may have experimented with this previously to no avail.

The fact it's been like this since I got the car about 3 years ago suggests I'm not that fussed, just one of those things that every now and again I think "I ought to try and resolve this one..."

Strange one, might be something to do with the charging lead acting like an aerial or interfering with the signal/ radio, or maybe that the power going to the socket (when in use/ drawing current) is interfering with the dab aerial somewhere along the line.

Try the other port or a different lead, at least that would help narrow down where the problem is.

If you're still in warranty I'd take it back, or if not ring the dealer and see if they have any ideas?

Out of warranty.

Adding to the "I obviously don't care that much" list is the fact that I haven't even bothered googling it. Maybe try that next.

Turns out a lot of the cheap 12v USB adaptors cause interference. Will try a better quality one, see if that sorts it - cheers for the suggestions all.
