Captain Tom Foundation

Lots of so-called charities are dubious. Watch Sky and see adverts for saving Snow Leopards, Turtles etc etc.
Some are legit others seem very dubious.

I thought the family started the foundation as unscrupulous 3rd parties were trying to exploit the "Captain Tom" name for commercial purposes and for products that he didn't/wouldn't have supported, so it was a way of protecting his name/legacy.

It is just unfortunate that the family have subsequently tried to enrich themselves through exploiting his name.

It certainly smells a bit fishy. Sad that such a great fundraising act looks like it's going to be sullied by the apparent greed of the foundation set up as a result.

I posted a year or so ago after reading that she (his daughter) had created herself a job on six figure salary working for the foundation. I think from memory they were made to stop at that point as it was a blatant misuse of the funds raised.

I also read not long ago that much of the money raised has never been passed on to the NHS....

According to an article I read (in The Telegraph, I think), the daughter applied for a salary of £100,000 per year. This was rejected by The Charities Commission. However, they did agree to her salary of £85,000 per year...which is what she got.

Apparently, as a 'Lifestyle Coach' she also charges £250 per hour to anybody stupid enough to pay it.

A lifestyle coach...... for feks sake!!!

Should be clear on which bit of the "money raised" you mean.

My understanding is that every penny of £38m (isn't that about 18 hours of Brexit savings?) that was donated to old guy doing laps of his garden went to NHS Charities Together.

From their accounts of the £1m donated to the Captain Tom Foundation they've spent about £369k on charitable activities of which £160k were charitable grants to NHS charities.

The old guy was an inspiration to so many at a bleak and horrible time for the whole country. The subsequent greed and corruption sullies all that good work and good feeling.

His daughter is an absolute fecking disgrace. There is far too much of this going on in so many so called charities. Wherever there is big money involved you can bet your bottom dollar some unscrupulous tw@t has their sticky little mitts in the pie

The old fella was obviously doing a good deed, but the cynic in me always thought the way it blew into this media circus almost instantly was strange, and the way the public lapped it up (or appeared to). Clearly she was behind a lot of it. In fact the whole thing was probably her idea but of course he was never gonna come out and say that. That said, maybe he was always cool with making his daughter rich before he died.

I think I have seen it reported that the daughter was the one that got the media involved and insisted on calling him 'captain' Tom, the man himself apparently was a bit bemused by it as he said he retired in 1945 so hadn't been a captain for a long long time.
