Captain Cook and today's Torygraph

Torygraph is reporting that statues/ monuments of Captain Cook may be next on the certain activists' hit list. Make of it what you will....

It’s not really new this, when the Bristol statue got thrown in the river and they were all under threat there was a bunch of blokes out on a Saturday in Great Ayton guarding (with the help of a lot of cans of lager) the Captain Cook statue and a police van circling slowly around the village.

Gave a bit of excitement to everybody stood in the queue for Petch’s....

It was a few locals who were just out for the craic. Nothing more nothing less.
We said at the time that we weren't going to get an influx of folk moving on Ayton 🤣

(Disclaimer I wasn't one of the men in question, I was at work that day doing some cleaning up 😀)

From the one incident I saw of 'statue guarding' down here in Devon, it certainly looked like can of lagers were a required accessory along with a belligerent and aggressive attitude to random passersby.

Total melons the lot of them!
