Can woody turn it around?

"Journalism is a form of writing that tells people about things that really happened,...."

Nah mate.
"Journalism"...
Its all about opinions and interpretation.
Its about wrapping up fresh air and selling it in silver paper as precious dust from Mars.
Its about manipulation and a gullible public willing to digest it.
Its about agenda`s and who pays.
He who pays the piper calls the tune.

I appreciate the point you make above. Unfortunately, your comments do have more than a whiff of reality. I was talking about Journalism in the ideological true sense of the profession.

In Britain, and no doubt around the world, I agree, there are very few media outlets that are not manipulated and controlled to suit their wealthy owners. One of the last bastions of what I considered fairness and balance (some will disagree) was the BBC. However, even that is kowtowing to this government over fears of losing the licence fee and future reform. It has fallen too imho. Fake news seems to be the new normal. The truth is there to be manipulated for financial gain, power and to control the masses. Journalists have joined in the game for their 30 pieces of silver. Truth is now what the rich and powerful people want it to be I guess and we are pretty powerless to alter the media barons march to riches.

Wishing we had appointed someone else when there is a downturn is what most fans do. In reality, wherever a club is for a significant period of time, you can place a margin around that and fans want to be at the top of that margin. If that becomes the new normal then the margin is shifted too and fans who were happy with the performance of the club, now expect the top of the margin, again.

It's natural enough I suppose, but nobody wants to build anything anymore. I don't know why, next day delivery probably has a lot to answer for.

On a personal level I didn't want Woodgate (still don't) but there have been spells where it looks like it might come together. I guess we'd need to understand the vision for the club to really grasp the extent to which we're achieving our goals.

The appointment of Woodgate, coupled with the restriction on spend in the transfer market/reliance on the academy, suggests we're comfortable dropping down from our 7th place finish last season. That said, I don't think a relegation battle was really expected this season. It's clear to see that he's under-performing but it's also his first season in senior management. I think it's likely that regardless of league position this season he'll be given another couple of years to show some signs of improvement. If we go down that probably means bouncing back at the first time of asking, if we stay up we probably target a mid-table finish in a couple years time.

I think we'll just about stay up this season but a lot will rest on Patrick Roberts' shoulders in my opinion. If fit, he's probably one of the most creative players in the division but I'm nervous that we haven't got anyone else nearly half as good for him to link up with.

Woody got the job because he said he would play high tempo pressing attacking football. Those are pretty much the only words that came out of the club for months around his appointment. Also known as "taking off the shackles".
