Can anyone recommend a Physio?

I've struggled with neck pain for some time now but after a recent MRI scan, I was told I had rheumatoid arthritis in my spine.

I've previously had two operations on my lower spine to fuse discs and was offered an operation on my upper spine some years ago to sort my neck out. I refused at the time hoping I could manage the pain but that is no longer the case. I am getting severe pain in my neck, shoulder, forearm and thumb, which is keeping me awake at night. I am also getting cramps in my arm.

I've been to the doctor and asked for a referral to a specialist and was told it was a waste of time and that I would be clogging up the system. I told him that I was happy to clog it up.

I was thinking of seeing a physio and hope they could help ease the pain.

Also try warm water therapy. My brothers swears by it and has had similar issues as you. He also see’s Phil Newton in Saltburn.

There is one I used on my shoulder in the Rainbow Leisure centre (Coulby). They were great, Fighting Fit Physiotherapy. I was covered by my private health, so not a clue of the costs.

My cousin is one, lives on church Lane, Eston, works at Guisborough hospital and also does it from home, can pass details if interested

I managed to get to see Phil Newton on Tuesday morning and he gave me a few pointers regarding the medication the doctor prescribed and little exercises to do on my neck. I have already started to feel the benefits from this visit and after speaking with him, I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

The doctor prescribed Amitriptyline to help me sleep at night but due to them being an anti-depressant, I hadn't taken any. Phil talked me through how they can be used for pain relief (something the doctor never did) and advised that I should give them a go. I've taken them the last few nights and haven't gotten out of bed until 10.30 each day. I can't remember the last time I slept that late.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to reply to mu original e-mail and thumbs up to those who recommended Phil.
