might there be a buy out clause in his contract .... if a premiership club comes in for him he is allowed to talk to them? if so then all is above board but a tad secrative till the ts are crossed....

How can you be so sure Rob? Maybe the buyout bit is highly unlikely, but a clause allowing him to speak to others isn’t imho. I hope you are right by the way.
We have seen clauses in players contracts where this has been permitted, Traore, Ziege etc. We simply do not know what his contract small print states.
