It sounds like the ref didn't know what he was doing. Even in Sunday League, a ref would speak with both managers before abandoning a game.

Scunthorpe's crazy journey continues today as the club release an update stating that the Chairman who everyone thought was coming in on his horse to save the day. Leaving with immediate effect and the club have chosen to play the rest of this season using neighbours Gainsborough Trinity Northholme ground.
It could be the beginning of the end of Scunthorpe United. If the club cannot find a buy out they would not be sustainable due to the massive reduction in matchday takings.
A sad day for football. Town's like Scunthorpe really rely on things like their football team to bring money into the area.
