Burnley unlikely to recall record signing Ben Gibson despite defensive injury crisis

Probably the spark that gets this moving on from stalemate is Dyche leaving at end of season . Probably what Ben is waiting for .

I'd love to know what's gone on at Turf Moor. Dyche will be getting stick over the signing, he's not as good as the centre backs they have so one of their transfers must have fallen through.

So Dyche is stuck with a problem the wealthier clubs love to have but clubs like Burnley (and Boro) struggle to handle. An ambitious and capable player not getting a look in and not enough overall squad strength for rotation or excessive cup involvement.

How the player handles it is key, and if he's been using agents behind the manager's back to generate a move he may have picked on the wrong man in Dyche.

If Burnley and Dyche are not talking to Ben, how else can he get a move away if not talking to agents?

He's been put in a corner and Dyche is being stupid by not letting him leave. Burnley are not a rich club and paying wages to a player that doesn't play until he leaves on a free is money wasted to placate the ego of Dyche.

Agree, I'd love to know exactly what's gone on.

Burnley's squad is threadbare at the best of times, let alone at this minute with their injuries and he still can't get a place on the bench.

I'm afraid things aren't usually so one sided, and if Dyche was that type of manager he wouldn't have lasted as long as he has, nor Burnley in the top flight.

Perhaps Gibson's ego got the better of him and he spat the dummy out too early, who knows?

Surely an in the know can tell us all the truth here? Imagine if we bought a bloke for a club record fee and he barely kicked a ball for us and we eventually let him go back to his lower League former club to train. This Board would be in meltdown. Somebody must know the story? We know Dyce bought Gibson because he thought Mee or Tarkowski were definitely going but then the expected bids/ moves didn’t happen. After that who knows. The situation is a complete mess and for Gibson’s future it has to be sorted over the Summer

Maybe, either way it makes zero sense for a club like Burnley to let any of its players rot while paying them ~£40K per week.

It needs a club to step in and make an acceptable offer. £15m may be a lot to Burnley but it's not a large amount for a Premier League footballer today.

They supposedly turned down £10m from Watford in the transfer window, but I think the sticking point will have been less the fee and more selling to a rival so late on in the season and strengthening them.

If the season pans out well for Watford and they stay up and keep Big Nige he may well be back in with that same bid for Gibson in the off season. Burnley might look at it with a fresh perspective when points are wiped back to zero.

Interesting thread
We know next to nothing about what has gone on but there is a huge out pouring of sympathy to Ben
What we do know is he is paid a small fortune for doing absolutely zilch

Other footballers (non Middlesbrough folk) get slaughtered for taking supporters money in those circumstances

Burnley will want to sell him for a cut down price say £7.5m. That way they get a fee and him off the wage bill.

Watford were interested maybe buy him for a cut down fee.

Boro could argue they would play him and get his value up for Burnley and pay a third of his wages.

With hindsight good business by Pulis to get £15m.
