Britt etc - free transfer

The season when britt scored 15 goals at forest he played 2415 minutes (26.8 sets of 90 minutes) over 29 appearances so for the large part he played the full 90 mins per appearance (only didn't do so on 8 occasions, 9 if you count the game he got a red card in the 88th minute and one of those occasions was where he went off and needed knee surgery). He missed 16 games after that Wigan game with his knee recovery but was already on 15 goals. the following season was his recovery season so can understand some subbing during that season - he still got 14 goals. He then came here and had to play under Pulis's defensive setup and stories of strikers being limited in training, and Monk with his ever changing tactics. He still got 15 goals in his first season despite loads of games where he only played for a few minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes etc - 9 appearances in his debut season as a £15m striker where he played for less than half the game.

When Britt scored 15 for us he played 2982 minutes (33.13 sets of 90 minutes) however this was over 44 appearances so often didn't play the full 90 minutes, in fact only played the full 90 minutes for 20 of those 44 appearances. The season he scored 14 for us he played 45 mins or less 14 times and was only on the bench for 4 games as an unused sub. 14 times only he played the full 90 mins.

Playing up front is largely a confidence based game. We often chop and change the team around and sub people off. I'm not really surprised this messes with players heads. Not saying he should have a guaranteed start, but people are comparing apples to oranges by comparing his goal return at boro to his goal return at forst when he was either coming back from injury or at least started and finished most the games he was played in.

Our only other option has 5 goals in 60 games at this level, if Britt is a fraud what does that make Akpom?
Akpom is a poor striker but he was relatively cheap and he brings players into play we know he’ll try but prob fall short no comparison as he has always had a modest goal outlay.

Btw we still play better with Akpom in the side than britt, so what does that say.

Remember the three sitters he missed away at forest, he’s a flat track bully bags a few then goes missing.

I’d sell him tomorrow and I think Warnock would as well.
Flat track bully is exactly right. We played 23 games under Monk. We played every team. He scored 11 goals. He scored ZERO goals against top half sides. 8 of his goals were against the bottom 6. The other 3 against 13th, 16th and 18th. It's a fallacy that he looked a good player under Monk. He was invisible against all but the poorest teams.

I think akpom, who cost far less, at least creates more opportunities for other players. There was a play yesterday when Brit could have passed but once again he didn't.

Britt never passes head down and boom every week.

So his assist stat is the biggest issue for me, if he doesn’t score then he doesn’t really add anything else.

Based on this both players are almost identical for expected assists, Britt makes more passes per game and has a better pass %, his goalscoring stats are also better than Akpom. Not that it exactly means much in this system but Britt offers much more than Akpom does

That's interesting but I'm still not convinced esp when you assess all the above on the cost per player. I know some state that's not a factor but I would disagree.

The good news is that it isn't just us who have had recruitment nightmares.
McBurnie and Brewster cost Sheff Utd £43m and are on their way to a championship ground near you soon!

How about considering a swap deal.
Would Forest consider bringing in Britt for someone like, say, Grabban?
I'm not a Grabban fan per se but he does seem to score goals wherever he goes.

Just think the risk for either club is minimal as forwards not performing.
But a shake-up and change of environment might just start them firing?

Thats the problem with the debate, people have to have a player to criticise, this has always been the case. And due to the price we paid for him this has suddenly become Britt. Yes he has been poor but the criticism has been way over the top. Look no further than the manager for why we are struggling for goals.
All of those criticising are still yet to name a player we could get to do a better job

I don't think it's fair to suggest that people always look for a player to criticise. For many, I would suggest, it's frustration . No one is expecting prem level performances every game but just a bit more would be nice . When you've paid for a nicer hotel you want a better experience. He cost far more than tubes and personally I would expect more.
Also the argument about another player is a distraction. We are talking about what he could be doing.

The game was won - should have given a youngster a chance
maybe but his number one priority is managing a small squad and not getting further injuries. He needed to bring Akpom off and we don't have a young CF to put up top. Folarin and Jknes would have been instead of bringing on Roberts and Coulson

Either way, I think the subs could have been made earlier. I realise we needed to protect the lead etc but they didn't seem in the game & we've lots of games coming up.

It was hilarious that most of the texts on BBC Tees last night were criticising Assombalonga, despite the fact he was only on for 20 minutes and it was by far our most comfortable win in ages.

People definitely just want somebody to whinge about, it's relentless.

Grabban is similar to Britt in that he scores at a rate about 1 in 3 over his career. He has had 12 clubs never really settling anywhere and his all round play contribution and style is not that dissimilar to Britt. Granted he’s probably done it at a slightly higher level than Britt but at 32 he isn’t really a viable option long term and would command decent chunk in wages.
