I love watching base jumpers and wing suit fliers, but the level of danger is horrendous. I'd love to have tried it but I am scared sh1 less of heights. I even get vertigo playing things like Zelda!

Anyone on here a base jumper?

done some cliff jumping in the past both here and overseas some were pretty high, though that was when I was younger and had no responsabilities, wouldnt do anything like that now.

when I was in the army and based in Nottingham I had a gaffer who was a base jumper. He been locked up all over the world.
His wife apparently said it’s me or the chute and he choose her. Or so she thought. He got rid of the spare wheel from his car and stashed his chute in there ready to go and preyed he never got a puncture when he was with her.

Watch Wild Scandinavia. All 3 episodes on iplayer. Brilliant natural history documentary which rivals some of the Attenborough stuff with some of the filming. Added bonus is it’s narrated by the lovely Rebecca Ferguson. 😍The first episode a woman base jumping in the Norwegian Fjords. Not for the faint hearted. Gulp!!!

I’ve never attempted BASE jumping but in my days in the military I attempted some crazy stuff with the Paras and RMs. I once jumped out of a plane and opened my shoot at 1200ft, it had to be the most nerve wracking things I’d ever attempted.

Ok I had jumped several times before that but always a controlled decent with my shoot opening up around 2000-1500 ft minimum. I’ve also jumped off of cliffs and abseiled which is equally exhilarating and thankfully done it with incurring injuries.

I think one of the most nerve wracking experiences I’ve experienced is climbing the “A Frame” at Hunters point in San Francisco— wind howling and fog swirling I was sure I was going to slip to an ugly death — nice view of the bay mind you!

I’d definitely recommend extreme sports to anyone looking to test their nerve.

Is that the massive crane in the naval base/ shipyards?

I did do a solo static line jump from 3500 ft, god that was 12 years ago. I panicked when the door opened and they had to push me out. Head hit the wing and my parachute ropes al twisted. Panic mode kicked in, but was able to untwist them, thankfully. That enough for me, since then, screw heights, well I did fly a cessna 150 over Newcastle and actually landed it. I was out of my mind with fear the whole time!!

Correct, incredibly it was originally used as a test facility for the gas generator propulsion part of the submarine nuclear missile. On top of the A frame we’d have a bungy cable and hook which during testing would be connected to a dummy missile. I used to get a kick out of telling (San Franciscans) people what the A frame was used for, and seeing their reaction to the term “Nuke testing!!” lol 😂

What parachute was that on and were you briefed to operate it at that height above the ground?

If like me you are too over the hill and beer beelied give something like this a go.

It's not 100% full immersion. But with headphones it's easy to forget the outside world.

It's damn fun and challenging as well.

This is now a couple of years old so climb 3 should be on the way for the quest 3 headset.

It was a large chute type but I can’t remember the actual name— typical for low level releases. Paras styled as I’m led to believe. I never attempted anything lower as you really need 10-20 attempts to get the timing right.

What happens when you get the timing wrong on the first 9-19 attempts 😳😂😂
