Britain ruled by conservatives & toffs

Agree in the main.

But... Personally did Latin at GS in Stockton, and though I did not take O level due to a poor mock result, I have found the vocabulary knowledge gained has helped in life generally. Understanding other European languages, from a tourist perspective, my approach to writing and general understanding of written material at work and leisure, even doing crosswords and quizzing hu has been ameliorated (see what I did there) by what I learned in four years of school Latin.

Having said that our education system, like most things that need improvement to achieve proper 'leveling up', is in need of much more basic investment and improvement.

To address your initial sentence, that has been the aim of the ruling elite since 1945 and the best government this country has ever had.

Why does rowing get it in the neck because it's had one poor showing, yet outside of athletics and cycling, two other highly funded sports, it has been our most successful Olympic event since UK Sport funding began?

Didn't help your English much though did it :sneaky:

I did Latin at school too, a complete waste of time as only the top 10 kids in the whole year were chosen to do it, at AO level

That said, they all got a U - the teacher forgot to post their exam papers off :D

I was wondering that too. Seems bizarre to attack something that (this year not withstanding) has been a phenomenal success

Anybody remember the Latin mass? Nice to listen to - didn't have a clue what was being said!

If Latin is making a comeback, there is still hope for Esperanto.
