[ Diedhiou has been mentioned half a dozen times recently in various online outlets, but this player appears to be unintentionally warning off any clubs who want to propose any kind of "reasonable" offer.

If thats the case, then hes doing himself no favours.

Like others such as Bolasie, he might find doors closing in his face and end up in some backwater or knocking on the same club doors he was demanding off at this stage in the pre-season. ]

Reports in the North East suggest the Senegal striker's wage demands could scupper a move to the Riverside Stadium

Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou, who will be released when his contract expires next month, is pricing himself out of a move to Middlesbrough, according to reports.

The Northern Echo suggests the Senegalese's wage demands "stand in the way of a proposed move to the Riverside", despite months of transfer talk linking Diedhiou with Neil Warnock's side.

City had been negotiating a new deal with Diedhiou for many months, but he has run his contract down and the club confirmed he will leave Ashton Gate next month.

Boro pursued a deal in January, exploring a potential swap involving Britt Assombalonga, but City held onto their number nine.

He will now leave BS3 as a free agent, but he may have to revise his salary demands if he is to get his desired move. As it stands, he is understood to be asking for a pay rise which is much more than Boro are willing to pay.

The 28-year-old joined City from French side Angers in 2017, making 169 appearances in all competitions, scoring 51 goals.

He had become a fan favourite at Ashton Gate, but his final season as a City player has been poor, scoring just eight goals in 40 league appearances and he did not play in the final three games of the season due to injury.

Diedhiou is one of a dozen players who will be released at the end of their contracts by City, who are set for a rebuild under Nigel Pearson.

Neil can turn water into wine - though Chuba Ackpom appears to have been "corked" in the wine cellar. This guy might become a diamond - but we`ve just got rid of one fancy-pants who we paid a fortune for and he didnt deliver. I wonder if Neil already has others lined up who want to play for him and Middlesbrough - not the pound signs. I would think so.

Leave the pound - grabbers by the wayside. We want players who want to come to Middlesbrough for the club and the fans. [....and win us the FA Cup and promotion if they have it in them!] (y)

Look elsewhere, we've overpaid too many players for their services and not got anywhere near our money's worth.

It's hardly suprising. They offered him a new contract and he turned it down. They are a big payer.

I'm not fussed. Don't be held to ransom👍

Are you ok?

8 in 40 is more like Britt's strike rate - poinless letting BA and AF to get a similar player close to their wages.

I guess DD wants around £30k/week and we have offered around £20k/week.
