Brazil Squad

Their legendary goalkeeper, Felix, from the awesome 1970 side is dead now. I recall he was almost a cult like figure, always dressed in all black, an imposing man.

That team was probably the greatest footballing side I have ever seen play in the world cup. They made it look so easy. They would tease the opposition with their flair and skill and then BANG! back of the net.

That is a quality squad. What I always look forward to when seeing the boys from Brazil in the world cup are players I haven't seen before. Players from the Brazilian league who are always wonderful on the eye. Favourites this year. No surprise there.
I agree but sadly Those days are largely gone though as even the lesser players are already under the big European teams control.

Brazil’s best leave the domestic leagues now at ridiculously young ages so we don’t really see that unknown x player anymore.

We also don’t see the flamboyant Players either as they are often europeanised before they get they call up.

Neymar has his critics for good and bad but he plays the game in the spirit of the old school players he has the fantasy we want from that yellow shirt.

Now it’s more about pace and power for the selecao than the fantasy of the past esp in mf

Good point. Many play in Europe now and the Premier League. In those days the players seemed to have more space. Unless their skill made it looks much easier. They played the game as it should be played, feet to feet. The pace could be so slow at times compared to now.

They were always a bit cynical, just like Argentina, and the other south American sides, but if they decided to play football nobody stood a chance.

9 forwards. Shows what their intent will be

Wonder how many GS will pick on Thursday?
Probably 4 or 5 if you count Foden and Sterling as forwards

If your a fan of all things Brazil I’d recommend two books

It was the first book to be written in English about that 1970 Brazil side he tracks them all down they mythical names Alberto Carlos, tostao, rivlleno etc.37F977CC-E737-4C06-B14F-BB043A7A0BFC.jpg

'intent' is meaningless if you don't win it, if they lose 4-3 because they've got poor defensive option then it's all irrelevant. I see a Brazil team that hope to basketball their way to the trophy, but lets be honest every time I've seen them try that in my lifetime they failed. The two times they played more pragmatic and balanced they won. No point taking 9 strikers if 4 of them won't get a kick, but you end playing players out of position to cover defensive injuries.

Frightening forward options.
Lots of options, but they (probably) can't play them all, and how many would make it into a world XI, or even the bench of a World XI? They're largely all quite similar too, which is why I'm surprised they've not took Firminho.

I'm not even sure if I'd have Neymar in my World XI to be honest.

Of course though, all of them are very, very good players, and they could easily start 3 sub them after 30 mins, then bring on another 3 for 30 mins, and then another 3 for 30 mins, and still end up with a cracking strike force, better than most teams start with.

Lots of talk on here about martinelli and Jesus etc but as I said Brazil neymar aside tend to go for the more pragmatic approach now as richarlison is more often than not is seen as the key forward.

That team would get murdered at the back, Telles can’t defend for sh1t, silva struggles in a back 4 these days, militao is a centre back playing out of position, then one defensive midfielder and 5 attackers.

They're my pick (just) ahead of France.

They're a lot more pragmatic these days under Tite (something started under Dunga). I don't think they will batter many teams but in tight, tournament games they should have enough quality to progress against most teams.
The World Cup winners have been knocked out at the group stage in the following tournament in 4 of the last 5 tournaments. Wonder if it'll happen again.
