Braverman Breaks Ministerial Code

I genuinely don't think they know what they're doing.

If they leave the ECHR, not only will they break the Good Friday Agreement, the EU will tear up the trade agreement as well.

So, they'll have set back relations with the EU, US and we will be stuck with hotels full of people that can't be sent anywhere because they're not going to process their applications.

Madness.

They won't leave the EHCR and put themselves on a par with Russia re human rights, they'll just mess about and prevaricate/ appeal/ignore decisions until Labour gets in. Sadly most of their supporters will be sold and believe the idea that EHCR and the Council of Europe are something to do with the EU....that's how thick most of them are

They could potentially leave the ECHR and simultaneously enact a British Bill of Human Rights that mirrored much the same as the ECHR to get round it, but include a section to cover the law they hope to enact. It would still cause massive mistrust around the globe though and would need very careful drafting and in truth, I think we’d be seen as a nation that was a bit like the McClaren/Gibson relationship, you’d always want to be checking the grass was really green if we told you it was.

I think this is all about smoke and mirrors, obfuscation etc to suggest the tories are tackling the immigration issue in the lead up to an election when the real truth is it simply isn’t deliverable as portrayed. The only way it is deliverable is to pay huge sums to France and other European nations to accept returns. In the short term it will cost more, but it will stop the majority of crossings and migrants will look and go elsewhere. Once that eventually happens numbers will drop and payments will too. To make that work will need safe and legal routes of application being adopted (maybe processing centres in Europe for one).

I would not trust this shower to play fair with migrants or neighbouring European neighbours though and I think they will happily leave the crisis to rumble on and on for Labour to subsequently get a kicking on once re-elected.

The countries infrastructure, health, education, housing and benefits systems can not cope under the existing strains and reform is needed as well as increased taxation. I am not sure the JAM’s can cope too well at that thought. Lots of doses of reality will be needed for the ordinary man in the street to tackle it and the country being as divided as it is would worry me that the support would be there to see through much needed reform at the likely cost to personal wealth. We are in a mess, and the migrant crisis has undoubtedly been made worse as a direct result of brexit, rather than allowing us to manage the borders, it has taken away some of our ability to do so effectively as we can’t return failed applications without agreements being made.

I was just reading Colin Yeo's (immigration lawyer) take on it and from what he says, even if we did leave the ECHR, the Bill doesn't do what they say they're trying to do.

Not only is it ammoral, it's just bad law.

No 10 says Sunak does not see civil servants as part of 'activist blob' blocking government policy

Downing Street has said that Rishi Sunak and Suella Braverman do not view civil servants as part of an “activist blob” that stopped the government from implementing its policies to cut small boat crossings.

The Conservative party made this claim in an email sent out on Tuesday to supporters, purportedly written by Braverman. Yesterday the party said that was a mistake, because she had not seen the text, or approved its wording.

Asked about the email at today’s lobby briefing, the PM’s spokesperson said:

It doesn’t represent her views and certainly does not represent the views of the prime minister.

Effectively, we can no longer trust any government communication as genuine unless we've seen the minister's lips move.

Didn't Raaaaab already try that but it was so bad they binned it?
It had its first reading last year as far as I recall, but it has never been brought back for a second reading I don’t think. Whether that is it being binned, kicked in the long grass, or just taken a back seat due to all the tory leadership issues, goodness know. 🤷‍♂️ Whatever its fate, it will likely have been a rushed, half baked pile of 💩 tbf.
