Boro's superstar centre forwards

I think its fair to say we've had 5-6 of these, most in the Robson/McClaren era. Yakubu was perhaps not as globally renowned, but a big name in the PL. There may be a small argument for Alves or even Maccarone, but I've dismissed them.

Am I right in thinking that JFH is remembered by far the most fondly? If so, its odd because I remember he got tons of stick for being lazy back in 2004-2006. Has history been the kindest to him?

In my view Viduka was easily the best of the bunch, but I don't remember him too warmly for the way he left (and where he went, he could have gone anywhere else).

I’d say viduka is the most fondly remembered ( despite how he left).

I even had teachers at school that would pause lessons to wax lyrical about Camsell, Clough and Hickton.

What do you mean you were 'brought up' on George Elliott? He retired nearly a century ago.

I'm talking about Boro's globally renowned superstar strikers, mostly mercenary types, and how they are remembered.

Bernie Slaven, Ian Baird, Paul Wilkinson and John Hendrie were not global superstars, and nor was John Hickton (or even Brian Clough as a player), so dunno what your point is.

Well ok, but I'd struggle to see how any of the aforementioned Slaven, Baird, Wilkinson or Hendrie could be defined as superstars even in just domestic terms. 3 of them didn't win a cap, and even Slaven only won caps for his 'second team'.

Fair enough. Wasn’t really the question though, especially since plenty of us didn’t see any (or many) of the above actually play. I am not suggesting we never had good strikers before Ravanelli, far from it, and don’t think I’ve implied that. I’ve read all the books as well.
 
Viduka was the best. Great skill. Boksic was good when he could be bothered. Both Rav and JFH equally good. It's a shame Marco Branca never got to play in the premier league - I never really rated him until I saw him in the flesh. Thought he was excellent. Very underrated. Ricard was an enigma, looked a carthorse on occasions, and a decent finisher on others. Hopefully Chuba is the next superstar (if he isn't already!).
 
To be fair people forget that before the prem the really top superstar players (especially strikers) simply didn’t come to the uk let alone to the boro.

Man U struggled to get them over the line, so Rav wasn’t just an eye opener for us he was a shock to the country.

I remember he was cover star for world soccer that month, it was a huge deal.

Yes, Ricard and Branca deserve honourable mentions for sure. Branca actually played for 4 of the 7 sisters, plus Sampdoria who he won the league with.
