Boro useless 'fact' or not

26th December 1905 - Boro were the 1st away team to play at St Andrews ground & the 1st time we played them as Birmingham City, we lost 7-0 & the ball is on display at City's ground

Boro's 1st ever mascot was a lad called Andrew Gunn, he led the team out for our final home game of 1967-68 season, a crowd of 12,684 seen Stan Webb score both debut goals as we beat Bristol City 2-1

I met Andrew once at a football charity event & asked him how it came about

David Mills was the 1st away Boro player to recieve the 'red card' in a 5-0 defeat at Leeds, March 1978, a few days after our disastrous FAC defeat away to Orient, I was there that day & the Leeds fans taunted us singing, 'You've never been to wembley' :(

Billy Ashroft was the 1st Boro home 'red card' when he was sent off v Olympiakos in a 1980 pre season friendly
My first away game that Erimus at Leeds 5-0 I've been hooked ever since hahaha 👍

The 1st player manager to appear in a top flight match was our very own Andy Aitken v Liverpool who played CH on the 3rd November 1906, we bought him for £500 three days earlier from Newcastle

Summer of 1972

Huddersfield Town offered their own striker, Frank Worthington, plus a cash settlement for Mr Middlesbrough John Hickton but the directors wanted a cash settlement of £100k, eventually QPR entered the race & thankfully the Boro got cold feet

Bryan Orritt wore every shirt number from 1 - 12 apart from No2
Which Ironically was the number of the 1st substitution for the Boro

Bryan didn't play at right back, Billy Horner slotted into the No2 position & Bryan Orritt played further upfield

His 1st appearence as a sub at AP was to replace injured goalkeeper Bob Appleby in a 2-0 win
