Boro team had we not been relegated in 97

Off the back of Bryan Robson saying we almost signed Roberto Carlos, can anybody else who was around at the time tell me anybody else who was rumoured to be signing? I was only 3 at the time 😂
I know of Batistuta but I'd like to know a few others
Romario was pretty much nailed on from what I’d heard.

His history backs it up as he left Valencia 1997 to go on loan back to Brazil for a short term loan to flamenco only to make it permanent the following year

He’s actually a real life politician now as senator for Rio de Janeiro

Romario is the only one I actually believe as he was coming to the end of his career.
The whole gazette story around Roberto Carlos was stretching the truth somewhat.
Nearly signed = Robson asked about him and was told he was already moving to Inter.....

I thought Christian Vieri was in the news around that time more so than Batistuta

Nadal wasn't coming in, he messed us about before we got Festa, we waited for two months for him to agree, then he changed his mind
I remember I was working in the boro at the time and Everyday walking past the gazette banner from the sellers ( remember them) NADAL SET TO SIGN.

Erm yes

I don't think the Gazette were stretching the truth. The story came straight from Gibbo's own mouth. You can of course dismiss it as I say as Bruvado but the Gazette were merely reporting what he said.

Igor cvitanovic ( remember him) was actually included as a boro player on SWOS. that’s how close he came to signing.
He agreed terms but refused a work permit i think. Was Juninho also refused a work permit initally but then granted on appeal?

Cvitanovic had an exceptional goals to games ratio, but he must surely have had significant injury issues as he only ever played 281 games in his club career

Del Piero was linked I'm sure, and juventus teammate at the time Moreno Torricelli? We were definitely going to heavy though, not a lot of emphasis on defence!
