Someone with more money than sense.Sold for £16k
Any ideas who the new owner might be?
It was on display at the Riverside for many years on loan. The owner realised he had a very valuable asset and put it in an auction.IF it is genuine I’m surprised the club haven’t bought it.
So why didn’t the club buy it?It was on display at the Riverside for many years on loan. The owner realised he had a very valuable asset and put it in an auction.
Bought by a private collector. I wonder if we will ever see it again.
This one. Apparently, it is the oldest surviving Middlesbrough shirt. What Boro shirt are you all talking about?
Wow! I didn’t think it was the actual shirt that was at the Riverside! It was on display at the Riverside for many years on loan. The owner realised he had a very valuable asset and put it in an auction.

137 year old football shirt.. in impeccable condition.Maybe it’s fake and the club know it so didn’t get involved in the auction…?
Just a thought, not saying it is fake, just can’t understand why the club wouldn’t buy it at that price if it’s genuine.
This one. Apparently, it is the oldest surviving Middlesbrough shirt.
Thanks Gents
They could not afford it.So why didn’t the club buy it?
I would have thought there would have been a grant or something to cover it. Shame really. They could not afford it.
Seriously.
The owner wanted to auction it - and you cannot blame them.

Like this?Would be nice to see a version of that as a change or 3rd shirt in the future, be a great way to commemorate our past and celebrate our heritage, maybe for our 150 year anniversary in 2026.
