They will sell him if he wants to go - more likely in the summer than january but with only a 1 year extension left on his contract if he made clear he wanted to go they would cash in, as all sensible clubs would
 
I don't want to see us sign a striker. We've got loads. Hardly used the 2 we bought in the summer. There's always a big old fuss over signing someone, then we don't even play the buggers and everyone moves onto the next signing.

To an extent, I agree, but then we have 2 strikers who are out of contract in the summer, 1 who's on loan and 1 who's just pants so far.

If Akpom won't sign a long term extension, I think we'll activate the year option and then sell in the summer.

Watmore's missed a lot of the season through injury, and he's got a well publicised knee issue that we're always having to manage, the club might not want to extend his contract as the issues will likely get worse as he gets older.

Muniz is here on loan and hasn't had an influence in months.

Hoppe has done nothing when he has played, and it's a rare occasion when he does anyway, so he might not impress Carrick.

Forss seems okay recently.

So that's 3 of the 5 who could conceivably go in the summer, it might make sense to start looking for replacements.

Very quick to write off Hoppe, I must have missed all those games he's started and done nothing?!

I never said he started games and I haven't written him off.

I'm just looking for reasons why we might be looking at strikers in January

Hoppe has played 5 times for us, done very little in those appearances, obviously caveated by the fact that it was very limited minutes.
But there's got to be a reason he's often not making the squad, let alone the bench.
