Boro Equality, Diversity and Inclusion survey

Long sleeved boro top with the sleeves rolled up, boro scarf on your head, tracksuit top round your waist, tracksuit bottoms tucked into socks and a single duvet worn like a cape.. y’know.. classy!

The trouble is that I can get fake boro gear quicker and easier and cheaper than the real deal.. and it’s decent quality! To some extent I can see the bother with getting custom shirts ordered.. but there’s a lot of stock items we could do more with and the standard of the other stuff is dire!

I don’t think the club shop has changed since it first opened.. the only difference being we don’t have one in town anymore!
I think you have just described my match attire there🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

With things like this it’s very easy to get defensive and try to deflect criticism, sometimes it can be uncomfortable especially when folks are trying to do good things at the club.. but there’s no point lying to ourselves and avoiding uncomfortable conversations.. the whole point of this exercise is to highlight issues and look at ways to try to alleviate those issues or reduce harm.
Totally agree with you and I'm certainly not backwards in coming forwards so MFC SMT have had one hell of a shock as I've rocked up with my forthright views on their EDI 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The atmosphere in every football ground I've stepped inside has an underlying mood that easily slides from tribalism and banter into something darker and nasty.
I bloody hate it but I do feel it is getting better and not worse. This booing taking the knee has to be stopped though.

There are more women and girls attending games and particiapting in pen shoot outs, mascots etc - Boro have one of the highest percentages of female fans in the country.
I’ve always felt we’ve had a high percentage of female fans comparatively speaking. We dumped our womens team in 2017..
The rent boys chant is heard occasionally, but its becoming less and less. I believe some younger fans may not even know what it means.
It has always been sung occasionally and saying that you believe that some younger fans might not even know what it means is certainly clutching at straws. The issue needs to be raised and those chanting it need to be educated.
I am told the facilities for people with a disability are very good at the Riverside, but I have not attended a game in that section, but know someone who takes his son who has a wheelchair. They also have allocated car parking spot in a club car park. The father gets free entry to Boro home games.
Hopefully better than when I did my ACL in a full leg brace and crutches
The Foundation have a special bus that they use to bring fans from East Cleveland to games, particularly for fans without a car. I think its only £2 so its helping low income groups.

The Club have been helful with food banks to help people on Teesside who are struggling with food poverty. There was a collection point in the ticket office.
“Your kids might have rickets, but you’ve got season tickets.. me I’m from Middlesbrough me!”

I found it a bit superficial, but done all the same
There’s a few points brought up on here that could very well be brought up at the supporters forum meeting on the 6th.. bit of a double whammy. We all need to be singing from the same song sheets and issues of equality, diversity and inclusion effect us all.

Absolutely and I have already put these points forward for discussion on Monday...I will certainly put them across in person as well

Newy - Ref Rent Boys chant - I don't defend any fans who shout it - I was just saying rent boys to me is a term from over 40 years ago.

Ref supporting People with disabilities - I think the club do a good job overall, it has to be people with medium to long term that the focus has to be on - don't you agree?

Yeah, I get it. But there has to be a point where a line is drawn and we say that is not acceptable. Times change, things move on. No point just handing our bans without any notice or education.

Medium to long term? Accessibility has to be there for all. I can’t comment is the club has done a good job or a bad job supporting people with disabilities. I do not know as much as I’d like to in this area. I was surprised when someone on here complained about the colour clash of kits.. I assumed that that would not be a problem. Then that makes me think about signage, programmes etc.. if the kit clashes are not being looked after then how are colour blind finds finding it in other areas.

The way I see it rightly or wrongly.
If I as an able bodied person have experienced difficulty, then there is a problem.
I don’t think I’m particularly ‘woke’ or ‘right on’ but if I see or hear or experience something that doesn’t sit right with me.. then I’m sure that’s are many others who are much more deeply effected by those things. Re racism, sexism, homophobia

Saying terms are 40 years old or Millwall and ourselves do a lot of work with food banks doesn’t cut it for me I’m afraid.
