Boris snubbed by England team???

I have no doubt that Johnson asked to invite them purely for political purposes. However Number 10 will make sure that it's rubbished in the press that the England team were invited, to save face. The FA will refuse to comment, it'll take a senior player to come out and say we turned the opportunity down, someone like Henderson might consider doing it

Maybe Southgate will come out and say something. It would be nice to see all our players speaking out in solidarity.

To be honest if they had any kind of self awareness they wouldn’t have attempted to invite the team to No 10. I dont know whether they were or weren’t but it wouldn’t have been a good political move to give the team an opportunity to turn any invitation down and further harm their political PR. Not that it can get more harmed than it is already.

After all the flags and bunting they put up outside of number 10..

It's like with the honours system, the government asks if it would be accepted if offered. Then when the answer is "No", then the government rep says "It's a good job we are not offering one, thanks for your time". Then they can claim that it was never even offered, so therefore cannot have been rejected. It's how the system works. Plausible deniability.

It's a bit difficult for him as manager, it's role that needs diplomacy, but maybe
lots of talk of pressure being put on young players shoulders.. maybe some of the older more experienced players/managers/pundits come out and speak? Gary Neville is spot on (never thought I’d say that)
