Boris Johnson gets final say on investigation into himself!

How absurd is it that he has the power to effectively vet an investigation into his own corrupt behaviour? It's jaw-dropping that the UK could allow this to happen and it really is evident that we are far removed from the democracy we believe we live in.

This behaviour is something we should all be extremely concerned about as we head towards a very, very dark time politically and in terms of the democracy of the UK. If this was happening in some African country, Russia or North Korea there'd be any amount of people shouting about it.

Well, they do say that it takes a thief to catch a thief so who better to investigate our corrupt scumbag of a prime minister than the man himself? I'm sure that he'll be scrupulously honest in his assessment of himself and his disgraceful behaviour. Not like the bloke has any form for lying through his teeth every time he opens his mouth, is it?

Vaughany has previous for daft tweets. He deleted the one where he called for a leader in UK like Trump. He was slaughtered. It spawned the hashtag #vaughanfacts

It probably is a bit daft that there isn't an automatic built in (sensible/reasonable) budget for the incoming prime minister to renovate the apartment.

I agree with you that Vaughan is missing the point regarding the original source of funding, and the 'conflicts of interest' this could cause.
There is one. £30k a year. Every year.

Every year or every PM term? (£30k per year seems a but excessive... but a drop in the ocean of the 'national purse' I suppose).
Prime ministers have an annual allowance of up to £30,000 of taxpayer's money to contribute to costs of maintaining and furnishing the four-bedroom flat.

It's not about how much was spent (previous Prime Ministers have averaged less than £30k a year across their tenures but if the allowance was exceeded they have topped up the spend out of their own pockets).

This is about how the Johnsons paid for the excess.

Practically every PM spends cash on the accommodation- they don't take it with them ! The electorate hate it - only an 11% Tory lead in yesterday's poll.

Many seem to miss the point, there's a reason donations have to be declared, to stop individuals buying favours.
Do you want to live in a country where its run for the benefit of a handful of very rich people, oh hang on...

It seems that the donation had been used for the interior design makeover (which obviously would mean a breach of tye rules), then BJ has repaid the money and then lied about it.

In this post-truth era, will this actually be as damaging as it once would be? It seems that many of his supporter don't really care, which is staggering.

This is only in the news because certain Tories want it to be, therefore it will damage Boris Johnson because those same people want it to damage him for their gain.

If these dont do the job in ousting Johnson then the other scandals they will have lined up to "leak" will.

If you can’t decorate a flat for £30k, which is the allowance given of tax payers money for this very thing, then there’s something wrong - £30k is enough to buy a house in many parts of the U.K.
