Borges is terrible

When we've brought in a fullback in the MC era, they've been slow to get forward in the first few games. MC said he specifically told Engle to do that when he joined, I suspect it's the same with the others.

Definitely more enterprise from Borges yesterday, but it wasn't entirely lacking in that Vs Preston: I think he had an assist denied for offside?@

Three games in this case. One of which was his debut against Cardiff where he played well. He was OK against Preston and I didn't see the Sunderland game.
Yeah I actually missed the Sunderland match too, so maybe he was so bad in that that it meant the other games he’d done ok/well in don’t count.

Giles didn't fail. Bangura looks decent but always injured. Early days for Borges.

I think what helped Giles a bit was Smith being in at Right Back but tucking in as an extra CB when Giles went forward. We almost played with a back 3 with Giles as an extra left sided midfielder. As good as Ayling is he plays more as an orthodox right back who gets forward himself, which makes defending as an exposed left back harder.

Yeah he was decent yesterday. Definitely helped him having McGree on the left supporting him,

Did have one frustrating moment during the 2nd half when he nearly got in behind down the left side and lost his footing but he put in a solid performance overall.

He had very little to do defensively and that was kind of game to really showcase what he can do going forward. He failed in that regard. It’s still early but I was disappointed he didn’t kick on yesterday. He’s extremely vanilla.

I do find it amazing that people are saying he’s crap after all of 4 played. I mean how long do new players get now to prove their worth - maybe 1 or 2 games an he’s not playing like prime Roberto Carlos by then he’s written off seemingly 🤦‍♂️

Borges has been fine. I don’t understand the thread tbh. I haven’t seen a Boro game involving him and thought “if it wasn’t for this fella, we’d have won this”. I think he looks fine. Which is good for a player signed late in a window and playing in a new country. We’ve not had “a Sheff Wed” out of him have we. Exactly.

He was better (though wasn't tested).

Put this thread down to a post-Sunderland foot stamp on my part.

He still might be rubbish though so I reserve the right to hoof this thread as evidence of my wisdom.
He's been better than terrible though. Was a truly harsh thread and you really rushed to judgment. He's played a handful of games and done well in most of them

He was terrible against Sunderland. With or without protection, it shouldn't affect your ability to pass a ball 10 yards. I stand by that. He was much better on Saturday though.

And as I said - it was an over reaction. Not sure what more I can say about that!

What about the games previous? Including his very solid debut against Cardiff.

It is the way you have put is terrible rather than saying he was terrible in the title I have an issue with.

I thought he was dreadful against Sunderland.

I think he's been largely fine in most other matches.

But then I think Engel was fine in most matches, he just had a handful where he was absolutely shocking.
