BMW service and MOT

Although, bare with me on this one. I had a friend with a BMW and he used to swear by Volmech .

I know it's a Volvo specialist but they do other cars too and come very highly rated

Feels solid, handles well and is very reliable ( well the last one was). Had Seat, Ford, Nissan, VW and Merc before. All very hit and miss with Seat being my next fav. I’ve only ever bought second hand though so I may have been unlucky with previous owners abusing them.

Overpriced for what you get, was always my opinion.
I'm not so sure anymore. The engineering is top drawer. The handling is good and it's no longer the case were the base model is stupidly under equipped and needs thousands of pounds with of extras. It's one big advantage: that it sold mainly RWD cars is being eroded now AWD is becoming the norm but I still really like them.

BMW cars always seemed over priced to me. Audi is similar but not quite as expensive. My first SEAT did 83k miles in nearly 8 years, with just a electric window motor plus tyres and wipers. The second one has needed a couple items in 6.3 years. so not excellent reliability like the first one, however it was £9k brand new/first owner. A similar spec Audi was £17k and BMW £23k.

Sometimes the authorised BMW dealers do service offers which look reasonable. If your BMW is still under guarantee I would use authorised dealership, it keeps the value of the car up and avoids any potential disputes about any work required under guarantee.

Some people like spending their money on expensive cars which is totally understandable. They get a lot of enjoyment out of them too.

To me - it is a car.

When people starting talking about ‘build’, ‘handling’ and ‘balance’ I have no idea what they mean and why it makes any difference from getting from A to B.
BMW are very good marketeers tho

Ah that'll be why you don't get it.

I'm a car guy. Things like the way a car is built, the materials it's made out of and how it rides are very important.

That being said everyone should be concerned about how well their car is engineered.

For what you get BMW are NOT expensive. Not even slightly.

As long as you have the work carried out by an authorised garage using genuine BMW parts your guarantee would not be impacted. My mrs had hers done when it needed a few service intervals and "recommended part changes" all at once and BMW wanted something like £550 for time and parts and she had it done third party approved for about £200. Why spend £350 on a brand name for the same work? You'll pay the same amount for the parts of course, but labour will be a fraction. You will get the iDrive updated to show work has been carried out correctly in exactly the same way.

She probably spent more on that car in 3 years than I spent on my Focus titanium in 11 years, just seemed a constant stream of cost. They dont seem to do amazing in the annual reliability indexes that get published.

Have to admit I also like a nice car...it does get me from A to B but it also makes me smile when I go to work. (y)
