Blast from the past - I was there - 1994 Season ticket leaflet

£88 for a North Stand terrace seat. Present day equivalent to £173.01 (according to Bank of England inflation calculator). Actual present day season ticket price for a seat in the West and East lower stands £490. 283% more expensive, in real terms, to watch football now than 25 years ago.

I think that £88 price is for a half season, January onwards. They've certainly gone up in real terms but not quite as much as stated.

I'm sure my North Stand season ticket was £180 in first season. Tenner a game (or was that what it went to in 2nd season memory fade?)

Edit sorry just realised this thread is about last season at Ayresome - it's been a long week

I agree ST Prices were cheaper in real terms in 1995.

Walk up was probably £12 for a cheap seat, now £29.

A little bit of the increase is VAT it was 17.5% then, now 20%

Big increase is players wages probably £1.6k a week then for Champo player now £16k/week.

Walk up for a seat was £8 in the east end seats. Or £6 for an adult and £3 for a child for tickets bought in advance.

The escalation since has been appalling.

I remember the price of a ticket in the Holgate going up from £4 to £6 at the start of Lennie Lawrence's first season, and this caused an outcry. In those days, people expected to be able to go out to watch the game and have a few pints for a tenner.

The next season was the beginning of the, then, Premiership. The 'Super League'. Another hike, with the price upped to £8 on the gate.

That's £17.39 today, according to this website:
