Registered No502 when big Jack gave Billy the No12 shirt home to QPR, unfortunatly his debut wasnt a fairytale as we got thumped 3-1

Between 1974 - 1982 Billy went on to play 55 games, 18 as sub, scoring 6 goals

His final Boro game was away to Sunderland on the 3rd April 1982 with the mighty Boro winning 2-0

When his career finished he ended up working with both of my younger brothers at Armstrong flooring, really nice bloke too

He was a good player. But it was so hard to follow that incredible Charlton's Champions XI most of who just went on and on. They set amazing standards.

I remember that Sunderland game (the Baxter game) being billed as possible survival for the winners, definite relegation for the losers. As it turned out the opposite was true.
