Billy Duffy

Of SDC/The Cult, not only made Morrissey and then the Smiths but was also in Theatre of Hate, just learnt that tonight. See England is Mine

Spiritwalker is probably my favourite 80s alt song, followed by Liberator by Spear

Billy played for the same football team as me for a couple of years in London, late 90s, when he was over from LA. He's a top lad, down to earth and a decent player

Duffy was never in SDC. He teamed up with Astbury after leaving TOH to form Death Cult which quickly became The Cult.

He was only in a band with Morrissey for about 5 minutes in 77 - not sure what you mean by saying he "made Morrissey and then the Smiths" unless you mean Duffy introduced Morrissey to Johnny Marr (which he did) but I'd say it was Morrissey & Marr's talents that actually made The Smiths what they were.

i saw Billy Duffy playing guitar one evening with Wasted Youth at a gig over the road from Victoria train station (he was friends with the Murphys and Rocco)

i remember when he worked at Kensington Market selling clothes.

he was at a lot of gigs, always sound and would join in a conversation, a normal Manc with a drive to play his Gretch live and in bands.

as far as i'm aware , he hasnt changed.

He was rumoured to be special guest at a TOH show before the first lock down. I've promoted TOH/SOD/KB solo many times over the last few years & Duffy crops up in the conversations regularly and by points of view he is a very down to earth guy with no airs & graces at all.

Hopefully TOH will be playing the Georgian in April all being well, would be nice to have him as special guest then as well...................
