Planning a trip in September and will be coming up from the Rioja region via Pamplona (For 1 night)
We will have 6 nights left and am just working out how to split them between San Sebastien and Bilbao (we fly out of Bilbao)

I’m sure some folk on here will have visited - any advice appreciated.

If you can, have a day or two around the Picos and the coast before 2 days in SS and 2 days in Bilbao.
There's Santander too.
Recommend Llanes ... lovely fishing village on dramatic coastline.

If time, a drive up the Rio Deva, through the Hermida gorge to Potes and up to overnight at the Parador at Fuente De would be even better. That's probably better than a day in San Sebastian to be fair.

Ohhhhh hang on
When are you going in September?????

Is that town big enough for the both of us ……..

1st weekend in September I think.

I'll be the one with 12 cans of Stella under my arm (none of this foreign muck for me) laying out my Boro towel on the sunbeds before the Germans get there, and ordering Omlette and chips at the local caff.

Anyone know whether they have Irish bars in SS, and do they have cash machines ?

Never been to Bilbao, had 2 nights in San Sebastian by accident about 10 years ago due to trainline issues and a trip diverting quite significantly- what a beautiful place.

Food was amazing, atmosphere was too. I look forward to going back when i've got some cash in the future.

We've been to San Sebastian a few times and love the place. The pintxos in the old town are to die for but you can also go off the beating track slightly and pay a lot less for it - the old town is worth a visit though and eating at.

Get a table in Constitution Square, order a Rioja wine and watch the world go by.

Ahhh, we’ll miss each other.
I’m cycling (maybe even tumbling) around Rioja from the 8th

Yes and yes, the Irish bars are green and the mini banks are red. ;) 🤣

Keeping a keen eye on this thread as we're off to SS in September for a mates 50th as they've been before and raved about it and so open to an new places to eat / drink etc.
Its a while since I've been but from memory its just a nice place, will have a good atmosphere in September. Bilbao is a bit sleepy from memory, I've been there a few times.

We start our cycling from there and finish 7 days later - looks good
You will have to let me know what it is like. In France, we are 3hrs away from Logrono but just over an hour away from San Sebastian. We have stayed over in San Sebastian but have also gone there for a day out.

This year we are travelling up to Bordeaux for the night and going to the Marche Des Capucin, which is a market Rick Stein had on his travel show. Somewhere the wife wants to visit.

Errrrrrr
Isn’t Bordeaux famous for something a little better 🍷
I love the place btw

If you two cycling nuts go to that part of the world and miss out on cycling up Hermida gorge to Fuente De, I shall be morst disappointed.

Both are great. was there in September. Bilbao old town is class, loads of bars/pinxos around Plaza Nueva and they’ve got a Transporter bridge. Transporter is about 25 mins on the metro. San Sab has 2 good beaches and top pinxos.
